:dsm: Ok my question is this i will order my s-afc unit soon and hopefully get it installed with minimal trouble but my real problem in my venture to turbo my 1.8 is this . everytime I run my rebuilt engine hard it runs good and strong as much as it can and it has been bored .20 over. but when I get to a stop light and it idles it kind of sputters and dies like its losing the ignition signal to the ecu and there for the ecu doesn't allow injector to pump fuel and my a/f meter wont' read crap when that happens for obvious reasons. do you think this is my distributor needing to be replaced since it has never been replaced before? or do you think its something else I build engines too but this one has me lost I can't figure it out everthing else checks out and that leads me to believe its that damn ### as distributor.

Im all for a 1.8 section. I just totalled my eclipse and will prob never own a 1.8 again but I still think its a good idea to treat even the little guy fair.

Hey Dubbbya! Glad ya' asked your question here. You listed a few symptoms and I couldn't say for sure if your distributor is the culprit or not from what you've listed. I myself haven't had any ignition problems yet. You said that everything else checked out. Does that include the fuel pump? (I've seen clogged fuel filters produce some of those effects). I'm sure the other 1.8 owners who have had close encounters of your kind will be glad to help you out. Good Luck!

I have a 94 Talon DL and it's a great car even without the almighty 2.0. I'm with you guys all the way. We need our own forum to talk without others telling us how inferior our cars are. LONG LIVE THE 1.8

Could anybody tell me where to find a good intake and exhaust for a decent price. I can't find much for a 1G Talon.

i'm with u guys to!!!!

kcmarsh,
www.nopi.com has a good catback system made from pacesetter. they have intakes to but i don't know if there the best . i think the catback is only 188.00. but when u go the search look under 90/ mitubishi / eclipse thats what i do, the cars are practicaly the sam other than body style.

Glad to hear from ya KCMarsh. Always glad to meet another 1.8 owner. There's no exhaust header available yet. I'm seeking to have one fabricated. For the rest of your exhaust, you can have larger pipe installed by your local muffler shop and can install a free flowing performance muffler. Oh' yeah... if ya' don't mind doing it... ya' can punch your cat. conv. out. There is a lot of 1.8 guys on this site that can offer great tips on getting the most out of your car. I've only done a few mods so far and they have produced great results. I finally put some new pics of my car in my gallery that show em'. Happy motorsporting!

Thank you 1.8Laser90 for the intake info. I'm going to look into that.

Well, now us 1.8ers have an entire board to ourselves. So we can post there, since DSMTuners doesn't want to make a 1.8 forum. I kind of like it that way. That way we don't have to carry a virtual fire extinguisher to recover from getting flamed constantly. :)

hey i was wondering...besides the g32bt exhaust manifold...are there any other manifolds that would fit....say for instance the 88-89 mirage turbo manifold?????????

im with you guys and im a 2g. you guys deserve your own forum !!!!!!

Woo hoo lets GO!!!
Im in the same boat... i just got a 94 eclipse gs (not the 2.0L) 1.8...and its so pretty and in super condtion..it was owned by a 68 year old lady...LOL...anyway lets get a forum up for us so we can help each other out...I'd be more proud of a 1.8 turbo'd eclipse done with my own hands that selling my sweet thang and buying one that come with a turbo...DO IT YOURSELF...its fun...expensive...time consuming...but fun...!
Lets go 1.8L!!:dsm:

newbie here, so how bad off are the 1.8L's? i just bought a 93 Eclipse with a 1.8, engine is locked, so i am thinking of rebuilding it, but i was also thinking of doing a 2.0L swap, but from what i read on here its alot of work to do the swap. anyone here wanna clewar these Q's up for me?

When I started this thread, I had no idea that it would get this many replies. It makes me realize more than ever that 1.8 owners not only dig their cars, but want more power under the hood. My car has been a journey into the 1.8 four banger and has been a pleasant one at that. I may not be able to go ahead with a turbo adaption to my engine at this time but the rebuild is coming soon. My car has 176,000 miles on it and has started to smoke a little. I know it's time to rebuild, but the little motor has been so faithful up to this point. Never has it broke down. I have done a few things to it (ya' can check that out on my cars profile) but with a fresh motor, slightly higher compression, ported head and a new cam (possibly re-ground to performance specs) I will feel confident in putting a 75hp nitrous kit on it. My 1.8 deserves the chance to be all it can be and I'm gonna force feed it whatever it takes... that is of course as money permits. Good luck to you all on your own cars.

I just couldn't take it anymore. I own a 1.8 and its just not fast enough for me. So I bought a 90 2.0 for the engine ($500 bucks!!) and i'm doing an engine swap in my garage. I just wanted to say that I know how the 1.8er's feel!! There are no parts for our cars! I am totally with the 1.8 forum!

I just came across this thread now and it sounds like a really good idea.....I love Dsmtuners and I own a 1.8.........also I can't even register @ dsmtalk and I have been trying for the last few months.

Oh one more thing; I have installed a K&N filter on my 1.8 and hacked my can but I have read alot of old threads in regards to removing the silencer. Now I think I know what this is (star shaped paper thing on the top of the MAS but is it good to remove it and how exactly (do I just pull it out).

Thanks

hey,
removing the silencer won't hert anything. all you have to do is take the mass sensor out of the car take the tube off and everything and unscrew all the screws on the top of it and pull the black medal piece off and push the silencer out of it threw the bottom and do reverse for putting back to gether and don't forget to put the gaskets back on:thumb:

register here, if you havent already its a site just for 1.8's
www.dsm1eights.s5.com
hope this helps :thumb:

Thanks for the Info man, I will register on that site tonight. Also will taking the silencer out give any extra power? All I have for performance mods are: hollowed out cat, 2 1/2" exhaust (soon to have a glass pak in the middle to quiet it down), flow thru dtm style muffler, and K & N airfilter w/ hacked can.

Thanks Again,

:dsm: :D :dsm:

it will make it less restrictive and sound meaner! it might give you a horse or two. keep up the mods :thumb:
