Don't get me wrong...I love my baby... My 1.8 SOHC talon 4g37.

I have never really seen this question asked this way. I thought it might give me some help. Maybe I can pump up my car the common way, then, get to some custom projects or something like that. but...

does anyone know any part, besides the freaking shocks and lowering springs, that are compatible with the 4g37?

I am talking in the aspects of exhaust, tuning, engine components...anything to improve performance from the drivetrain to engine and exhaust...and maybe other things...

I would really appreciate it as it would take the time of times in order to find sites with this... I would appreciate it if you would also leave a link to the product or at least tell me where you saw it...

If you also have any techniques for customizing exhaust or any components for the engine, feel free to speak on it as well...

welcome to the wonderful world of the 1.8!

Go on Ebay and get yourself a short-ram intake with a K+N filter, that should run you like 30 bucks (the one for the 2.0 NT 90-94 fits) then go on NOPI or Howell and buy the Pacesetter exhaust system for the 2.0 NT as it will fit as well (should be around $200). Give it a good tune up, NGK plugs and wires, new distributor cap and rotor (shouldnt be too expensive) There are also some performance cluthes for our car, but Im not very framiliar with them.

Thats about it for the 1.8. An underdrive pulley exists, but is extremely hard to find. Just be prepared to get asked "is that a turbo?" all the time. Just dont be stupid and think your the fastest guy in town just because its a DSM, us 1.8s get smoked by Z24s and civics. :cry:

Ok Im a newbie and I recently got a 1.8l too, are you saying all the 2.0l to 1.8l stuff is universal? What about turbos etc? Any help would be helpful thx.

the only thing that we can take off the 2.0l is the intake and exhaust, everything else won't bolt up like ..turbo,cylinder head, header.... exc hope this helps :laser: :talon: :dsm:
 
isnt there a way to swap the head in? or am i thinking of the 2g spyder?

i think your thinking of the 2g spider. swapping heads on the 1.8 is a waste of time because its not posible unless u have alot of money and if your gunna do that u might as well just swap a 2.0l in. ;)

Distributorless, has a coil pack-at least the 2.0s do

sell the 1.8 and buy at least a 2.0 no-turbo

Don't buy a N/A DSM. Just buy a Turbo and spend your nights and weekends making it faster.
 
you said 2.0 exhausts are compatible with the 1.8. just curios, is a STOCK 2.0 liter exhaust any better then the STOCK 1.8 liter exhaust?
Also a 2.0 nt downpipe will bolt to a 1.8 exhaust manifold?

i wouldn't think so, but if so its not that much bigger or can flow any better, because its stock. now maybe a fwd turbo catback but i think thats just a waist of time and money. i have seen a 2.0 down pipe and 1.8 downpipe never paid much attansion to it but i couldn't tell a diference. :laser: :dsm: :talon:

nope. the 1.8 has a distributor, every other DSM is distributorless...how do I know? MAYBE BECAusE I FREAKING OWN ONE AND JUST CHANGED THE DAMN THING

I saw on another board someone upgraded their 1.8 to a stock cat back from a 92-94 GST, and said they felt gains. anyone know anything about this? i checked, and it is alittle bigger. I have a gst exhaust laying in my parts shed by the way. so i was thinking if anyone knew if there was actually some kind of gain from this, maybe id get a higher flowing cat of beat the crap out of the inside of it and bolt the gst cat back on :laugh:

the 1.8 is my daily driver but id still like it to be alittle quicker :talon:

ya you feel diference because theres no resonators in it or anything its straight threw besides muffler and its ALITTLE bigger. i just think its waist if you go out and buy a used stock turbo exhaust but since u have one i would do it... just makes sure the years are the same and it looks like its all the same as in fitting and bolting up. if you do put it on take the cat off and put on a hi flow cat or just take the cat off totaly and put in a straight pipe ull get more gains from the exhaust ;)
 
so your saying that even though it says 2.0 DOHC it would fit my 1992 Eclipse 1.8? Please let me know, because my converter cracked and i need to replace it, so i would just buy the whole thing...thank you!!

yes as long as the years are the same and its for a n/a 2.0... ;)
 
Are there any aftermarket turbos that will work with the 1.8? I have a 93 Talon DL and would like to do this.
 
no there isn't but if u can get a manifold fabed u can get the flange welded on to use a 14b turbo off the 2.0 turbo. basically everything has to be fabed but there is some things u can take off the 2.0 to save money to do a cheep turbo set up.. i plan on turboing mine in the future :laser:
 
ya, but the runners are small, to get them ported and polished and have a flange welded on for the 14b u might as well get one fabed
