So, I've got a rebuilt motor in my newly acquired galant vr4. Right now, MMCD is showing know when I rev the engine in neutral. I have not driven it yet. I'll get knock counts up to 40.

I just got the ECU back from being rebuilt by ECMtuning, so I know that it is good. Anyway, MMCD is also showing 2.5v from the front sensor (which I believe is not used on DSMs) and .01V from the rear sensor. I believe that the signal has gone as high as .03v a couple time when revving the engine.

I just took out the o2 sensor and tested it and it tested ok. I even swapped in a different o2 sensor and it tested ok as well. I tracked down some small air leaks and fixed them, but still no change. I also tried shooting starting fluid into the intake while the engine was running and MMCD logged no change.

Think it could be a bad wire? Any other thoughts?

Also, I am still wondering if I am experiencing a real knock of a phantom one. Thus far the engine sounds pretty good while revving and I hear no audible knock.

Thanks for the help. I'm still searching the forums, but no luck for my specific situation yet.

Could be a problem with mmcd, i had that for a while but had problems with it i had to get link, my palm kept crashing. Could be a simple as that.

Hmm... I guess I could check the signal at the ECU.... Anyone know what pin it is off the tops of their head?

Scratch that, pin 4, white. I'll have to check the signal going to the ecu.

I guess part 2 will be me finding out if my knock is legit or not.

EDIT

Ok, well after having the thing run for a good while (since the rebuild) I finally have a cycling signal from my o2.

I still have a knock reading if I rev in neutral AND I took it for its first run and I did get a 10 knock count around 5k doing WOT in 1st. It seemed to pull just fine. I would love to think that this is just a phantom knock and I am good to go. I need to get a REAL boost gauge. I bought the car with an ebay big 16 and no MBC nor an aftermarket boost gauge. I need to get the boost gauge in first to see if I am ok and then I'll look into an MBC.

Think the big 16 could be overworking the stock 450s, even if it is at stock boost? I'm just happy to drive it down the road for now. It looks like i need to start working out the quirks.

One way to check u2 operation is to backprobe sensor at connector with a DMM hooked up at idle and pass some propane in the intake stream to create rich condition at idle and look for voltage to change accordingly, or do same inducing lean. If voltage present there check back of ECM.

If your getting knock like that check and see if there is a knock sensor installed or install a new knock sensor.
If you have ECM Link v3 your good to go and I don't believe you will need that old datalogger.
I assume you don't have a Wideband setup?
Learn all there is about link. ECMTuning, Inc.
Do a boost leak test if you haven't yet.

No wideband. I'm just running this car with what it came with so far.

I dropped the coolant temps down from 215 to 195 with a flush and some water wetter. I replaced the fuel filter and have fixed some boost leaks. I am not 100% certain that I am leak free, but it is looking pretty good at this point.

I think the knock sensor might be over torqued. I have read recently that the torque spec isn't very high.
