Hey all,

I recently rebuilt my throttle body with new shaft seals and a FIAV delete, and now my throttle plate seems to stick. Seems simple, but the weird thing is it only sticks when the engine is turned on. I can't get the throttle plate to stick when the car is off. It doesn't even feel hard to open/close. I'll get some resistance when the car is on around 5-10% throttle but it pushes past nicely after that. Another thing I noticed is that when I turn the car off while the throttle is sticking, I'll go to the engine bay to pull it back to it's resting position and it's already there. (I know this isn't a vacuum leak or anything of the sort because DSMlink will display the throttle position when I turn the engine off and it's greater than 0%.)

TPS and IAC were working normally prior to teardown. Throttle body blade is at the correct orientation, no gouges on throttle body surface.

Things I've tried:
Loosening throttle cable
Lubricating shaft seals and shaft with silicone dielectric grease
Throttle body shaft was wet sanded to remove the gray debris that was on it
Boost leak test at the throttle body showed no visible leaks

Is it possible that I tightened the nuts on the shaft too tight? I couldn't find torque specs anywhere so I just counted the threads on the pictures I had and set it to there. I'm not even sure what else to look for... Something around the FIAV maybe? Help me out guys!

Thanks!
Kyle

Solution
I have to disagree. The throttle blades need a good amount of tension. You absolutely have to have them wound correctly or you will have this issue.
As stated, don't tighten the shaft to much, but that's why I asked if it snapped back quickly. The springs are under more tension than you think.

Yeah, I think you're right. VFAQ said almost 2 turns on the springs, and Jafromobile's video shows the same. I'm not sure how I missed that... oh well... We'll see how it works once I get it back from rebuild. I swear the video I was using as a guide only showed him doing 1 turn on the springs. Sucks I paid 250 for a rebuild I probably don't need. :ohdamn: :ohdamn:

A shop is charging $250 to rebuild your TB?

Well, I need to start up a new business because, DAM.......Well you should have a nice reliable unit (and someone to bi*** at if there is an issue ROFL ) ✌️

Well good news, guys (not for my wallet), but for the car! I got the throttle body back from rebuild today and installed it and it works beautifully!! Shaun at AO Customs got this throttle body CLEAN. I also left a note for him to see if he can walk me through what I did wrong, and here's what he said:

"Return springs need 2 turns, the TB came with them having only 1 turn"
"12mm shaft nut was loose"
"Grease on the shaft bushings was sticky" (small amount of oil is needed to lube the shaft seals)
"BISS seized, had to melt it out"

So yeah guys, double check all those things when doing a TB rebuild. (Hoping this helps someone with a similar issue, I was just being dumb and not paying attention to the guides I had right in front of my face)
