Hello all,

My car has been sitting for years and im in the process of getting her ready to start. I turned the motor by hand, with the spark plugs out. Would you consider this just a little rust on the parts for sitting a while or should I be more concerned?? I'd like to fire her up in a week or two as parts come in

Thanks for the help.

This is my own experience

My car sat for 8 yrs undisturbed, I did the same thing you did, but I also added oil to the bores and spent a lot of time rotating with the wrench, and then I cranked her over with the bores open a good couple of times to make sure I built up plenty of oil pressure.

I didn’t want to use a drill on the oil pump.

I flushed the oil and added new oil along during this process, the engine is happy and strong 💪.

You should have liberally sprayed WD40 (or some penetrating lubricant of your choice) into the cylinder bores for a few days before turning it over. Turning it is a problem if it had been sitting for awhile. You may have damaged the rings. Only one way to find out.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I added fogging oil about 30 minutes before I rotated the engine. I guess here goes nothing

OK thank you. Going to swap out the oil and filter when I get the rest of the parts replaced before I try to start her up. Taking care of the fuel stuff and injectors before I fire her up.
