Oh ok I got ya now I see how it works. I have already noticed a huge difference going from the cheapo 195/70s to the Z and Y rated 205/40s on the car now. I just dont want to go backwards with the new tires.

Try looking up some 17x7 wheels with 225 and 215 width tires on them and see if it fits your need for looks and ride. Those wheels look like they were off a small honda or something like that. I would also suggest some good bolt on wheel spacers along with wider tires to give the fenders a much fuller look. 20mm bolt-ons would do you perfect I would think.

Yea I'm sure they were off a small honda or something like that with how small the tires are. they fit the fenders fine they are a 43 offset and dont stick out at all.

Gotcha. I just know I am a sucker for flush. Not stance, please dont get the two confused. LOL

I actually went from a 235/45/17 to a 225/40/17. There is a big difference in handling. Smaller sidewall def helps with the handling.

Also remember that the wider you go, if you leave the sidewall series the same, the sidewall will also get taller. So a 225/40/17 will have a taller sidewall already than a 205/40/17. And if you are thinking that wider = better traction, what really matters most is the tire compound. Just because a tire is wide, doesn't mean its grippy.

When you went from a 45 to a 40 did you go to a different manufacturer, tire & rating? I could see it feeling different going from a w to a z. Not so sure about 45 to a 40. I've had h rated Firestone tires in the past that just fall over themselves. Extreme sidewall rollover. Same size in a z and there is no sidewall flex. Not saying that the op needs to get z rated tires but you need to quantify your statement a bit more.
Z rated tires are more expensive. I think I run y rated. Zs can be overkill.

Yeah I went from Kumho Ecsta Supra Z rated that were old and hard, to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical Y rated. Don't get me wrong the Kumho tires still handled, but the Eagles feel better. If they still made the Kumhos I would have gotten them. Z tires are overkill. If I remember right the z rating is in excess of 168 mph sustained. With just a piggyback, I'm afraid to push mine beyond 130. Fuel cut at that speed is quite violent. The 1g turbos came with W rated tires stock. Street power levels, street driving, weekend warrior cars, won't required a tire of z rating more than likely.

i def understand. u want a decent sidewall im in the same boat with my 1g on 16s. i work at firestone. those 17s would look good with a 225/55 or a 225/60 and if those rub go down to 215. scrapin concret isnt fun i dont blame you. those wheels are sick for a buck 50:thumb:

Hey Guys,

I know it has been a while but I have finally found a nice set of tires (Toyo Proxies) for $200 bucks for the set (still had the knobbies on them!!)

I figured I would update the thread in case anyone ever searched it there would be a conclusion to the thread.

Anyways here is how the rims look now (totally different!!) with the 225-45-17 tires. The car is lowered on Tien s-tech springs (about 1.3" is what Tein says).

Thanks for everyones help!!!!!!
