Okay I'm completely and totally confused as to why my car is like this. I just bought this 1990 Eclipse GST and the whole turbo concept was confusing me at first but then after I figured that out, I noticed the piece that connects with a tube to the radiator that has the radiator cap on it (I really don't know what it's called) was not there. Instead, there is some sensor like thing on top. On top of that, the valve cover is red, and says Mitsubishi on it where my N/T says 16 Valve, and where the N/T reads 2000, the GST reads 16 valve. So, basically what I'm trying to ask is if it is a JDM motor or not. If this description is vague, I would greatly appreciate someone posting pics of JDM motor. I'd greatly appreciate it.
Brian

Edit: It is from a Galant VR4, VIN verified; nothing to see here. We all start somewhere.

Look on the intake manifold and see if it says "Cyclone Turbo Intercooler" if it does it's JDM.

It still may be a JDM engine w/out the cyclone intake. A lot of people don't use them becouse they don't know how too get the dual runner set up to work. Plus it is not emissions legal. No egr port. But From what you have described you have at least a JDM valve cover. :talon:

No, it doesn't have the Cyclone intake mani. The only reason I ask is because the car has 173K miles on it and it drives so very smoothly when the transmission isn't screwing up (grinds into 2nd a lot, and sometimes does not go fully into 1st from a stop) and I think with a newer motor it would run that smooth. I am hoping it drives just about perfectly when I get a new clutch this weekend. Anyways, can anyone explain the not having a place to put in radiator fluid besides the reservoir? That is really puzzling me and a lot of my friends. Is there any other way I can tell if the motor is JDM or not? Any help again is greatly appreciated.

Copy/paste that into your browser. Sorry about the bad lighting. Okay, my hand is resting on the radiator hose, that to the right is of course the valve cover, and there is a wire plug thing coming out of the top where I'm pointing to, which is supposed to be the place to add radiator fluid to the car. I've checked pics of other JDM motors, and they all have the radiator cap pretty visible.

Yep it's a JDM motor. I put the filler one on my car so I can add coolant like in the us spec car. What color are the injectors. Blue=210 hp 450cc injectors, Yellow=250 hp 510 cc injectors :talon:

AWDJDMTALON - Thanks for the help, you really calmed my mind about the whole thing. I'm real happy that it is a JDM, it was a total steal :thumb: . It has blue injectors so I guess it's the 210hp one.

1fast97gsx - go here if you want a pic of the whole motor.

*Pardon the ghettofied radiator mount, battery holder, and battery positive charge cover, just some stuff I threw together to hold stuff in place until I can get the original parts from a junkyard or something.

LOL awesome that you have a jdm motor. its like finding 20 bucks in your winter jacket  or even finding that your car came with a b16g , like that one guy on here. :)

oh, i'm gonna have to flame you because i see no duct tape nor zip ties... WHACK

It could be stuff out of a galant vr4. My roomate has one and thats how everything is. By the way, that thing that you pointed at is a thermostat housing. You need to either put a galant vr4 radiator in or a stock thermostat housing. I cant even imagine how a car will run without a radiator cap.

That is true about it could be a Galant motor. But lets not forget where the Galant VR4 came from. They were all built in Japan and imported. Plus all the JDM 4G63 motors we get over here are out of Galants

Just like the motor in all DSMs, other than the 420A.

How the hell did he fill the cooling system?

I know its not funny and all buying a car with weird ass problems but damn. He could always tip the overflow tank over or something,I dont know.

Hmmmmm i have also seen that vavle cover on n/a 2.0 galants but as far as that housing with that sensor is is pretty weird i haven't even seen that on the jdm motors.

It comes on them. Like I said earler you have to change it to use it in oyr cars.

That's a great diagram thing 98RedGs, it helps me see more parts I am going to need to get.... I don't have that same throttle body, mine has only the two necks sticking out instead of the 3 and then the extra one towards the back. I'll add that to the coolant cap piece, some radiator mounts, a few hoses, and then the car wouldn't start the other day and we don't know why, battery is fine so we think it's either the starter or the alternator, but leaning more towards the starter. Modifications will just have to wait a few paychecks I suppose. Thanks for all the inputs and help everyone.
