I ordered some Exhaust studs and Cam Gears from Mitsubishi Graveyard. When I compared the exhaust studs he sent with the the few I had left lying around the ones he sent were the wrong size. All Nine of the ones he sent were the same size and looked different from the ones I had laying around. My car is a 92 Talon TSI Turbo. They seem to fit in the head but I haven't bolted them in yet. I don't want to go through the hassle of putting them in if they are incorrect. Also the divider on the bolts I have laying around are almost exactly in the middle but his are further near the end. Any help on this would be appreciated. Did he send me the exhaust studs from the wrong year?

hmm.... you say they are the same size but looks different. are they the same thickness and same length? are the thread counts and patterns the same? if 2 are larger in diamater (thickness) then its possible he sent you an ex. manifold stud set from a 2g head, they have 2 larger studs on the ends. i also see yours is a 92, is it a 6 bolt or 7 bolt engine, the 7 bolt engine started in mid 92 and its the same engine as in the 2g cars.

The ones he sent me are shorter and thread counts are different. I think this car's tag said it was born May of 92. I think it's a 6 bolt...it better be since everything else I ordered I specified 6 bolt. I already have 6 bolt ARP Head Studs sitting in the block.

well id hope its a 6 bolt. if you already installed 6 bolt specific ARP head studs then its a 6 bolter. the 6 bolt head studs are 12mm diamater whereas the 7bolt engines head studs are only 11mm in diamater.
as of the bolt problem..... from what im understanding is that the new bolts DO thread into the head fine, correct? and the nuts that you have thread on to the new bolts. But your saying they may be too short, right? the only way to find out is by taking off the ex. manifold and trying to install it, if the new bolts are too short to thread onto the nuts w/ the ex. manifold on there they are defineatly too short and your screwed. Or i guess you could try measuring the width of the ex. manifold flange and do some calculations and so on and so forth and work from there to try to find out if there long enough.

Ok great, you helped me to figure out that it is actually a 6 bolt, 1 question solved.

The new studs do thred into the head fine, yes. They are shorter and I have the head/intake/exhaust manifold sitting on a table in my garage. I haven't measured anything yet as I just took a look this morning and compared them. The question I'm trying to figure out is if he sent me exhaust studs for like a 2g instead of a 1g. Are they the same? I've done a search and it seems that the 1g has 2 larger studs at the ends but a 2g doesn't(or vice versa). Also are the cam gears the same for a 2g and 1g? I want to make sure I got the right parts.
Thanks again

the stock 1g cams are an overall better cam than the stock 2g cams, dont ask me why but ive read it here a few dozen times! i honestly dont remember which head 1g or 2g has the larger 2 studs. i tried going to ssstuds.com to find out but it seams there website is down right now.. ssstuds.com sells coplete stainless stell ex. manifold studs for the 4g63. i dont know what you paid for yours but there complete kit is around $30.
if i were you, since you have the head and the ex. manifold sitting off the car inside your house simply thread in the studs into the head and slide on the ex. manifold and see if there is enough length to thread on the nuts, also see if every one of the studs will thread in correctly. Or wait, have you even taken out the stock ex. manifold studs yet?

I was talking about the cam gears not the cams. I'm hoping BJ put my stock 1G cams back in. I sent him head/intake/manifold with accessories...took me 5 months to get my stuff back and I'm not holding my breath for him to send me my cam gears and exhaust studs.

I paid $45 for both Cam Gears and all exhaust studs...these are from mitsubishi graveyard...sponsor from the board. They are used as well. I'm going to go home for lunch and test fit the exhaust manifold to the head with the new studs and see if they fit.

i dont believe there is a difference in the cam gears, i mean the tooth count is the same and the dimensions are the same. not trying to vendor bash, but i have heard bj's can take a very long time w/ peoples parts, its the reason SBR doesnt sell them anymore, cus they never got them.
