wont stay in gear!

Hey guys i have a question. does anyone know a reason why a car wouldnt stay in all the down gears? 1st, 3rd, 5th. are perfect. no grinding shifts smooth,really nice. However 2nd, 4th, and reverse will go in but refuse to stay there if i dont hold them in. they just pop right out.! what could be causing this? thanks in advanced, i will be searching as i post this thread, so please hold all the use search comments.

What do you mean you dont know how detailed of an answer?! I want to know what the possible causes for this could be, if anybody else has had similar problems to this,and what steps they took to rectify the problem.

Do yourself a favor. if you have nothing to contribute dont just post anything. your wasting yours and my time. just because your car wont start doesnt mean you need a new motor.

It really sounds like a shifter cable issue to me. Try taking the cables off of the trans and shifting through the gears using your hand. Mine had the same issue. Had second, fourth and reverse but wouldn't shift into first, third, or fifth. The cable was broken at the trans side.

I had a similar problem trans was shot, simple as that drivetrain problem.

thanks for the quick responses. i have more to add on the subject. my problems started immediately after i installed my mishimoto radiator.i checked the cable just now and the lower hose was catching on shifter linkage. installed my oem hose again but the problem is still there for some reason it keeps hitting it. anybody know where i can find flexible radiator hose so i can clear the linkage

possibly in the local advanced autoparts or autozone. they could carry a flexible radiator hose your looking for to fix the clearance problems
