Shift Fork? Won't stay in gear?

If 2nd will shift in, but won't stay in, is that a shift fork? I'm looking at a car and that is what he's saying. Is that a correct assumption? I've replaced synchros, but am not sure what are the symptoms of shift forks being bent...

usually if a transmission slips out of gear, the tranny is going bad. have you looked to see if the fork is adjusted correctly? when was the last time the fork was replaced?

Well, like I mentioned, I'm looking at this car, so I don't know the details. I was mainly curious if popping out of gear was related to forks or not. I know grinding can/is synchros, but I also know that forks are common on DSMs. Either way, the tranny is getting opened up.

my 2g had this problem...it started with the syncros, and i had the money to replace the tranny, so i beat on it for a summer...then it started not staying in gear after forcing it in, and finally it was about 95% gone...werid thing tho, when on long trips, after about 2 hours of non stop driving at speed, it would work almost perfectly fine...


...of course when it came time to replace the tranny, the saved funds went to something else....
