wiring map sensor?

I have a 1.5 bar map sensor off a SRT-4. I was wondering if I can wire it up to my 2g dsm? Would i need a reflaSH?
 
For what? 1.5 bar will let you see about 7psi of boost. In place of the MDP or whatever sensor? Why?
 
my buddy said 1bar is 14.5psi he says i can get about 20 psi onit....why do you think i could only get 7? i have no idea thats why im asking
 
On a dsm the pressure sensor has nothing to do with how much boost you can run, unless you have done a speed density conversion. Your maf meters the air, not the mdp. The pressure sensor on a dsm is for the emissions system. Also a pressure sensor measures boost and vacuum. IE, a 2 bar sensor measures 14.7 lbs of vacuum, and 14.7 lbs of boost, a 3 bar measures 1 bar vacuum, and 2 bar boost, A 1 bar only measures full vacuum up to 0 psi.

Manifold Differential Pressure sensor

MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure

The difference between differential and absolute:
  • Differential is like how your boost gauge works. It measures the difference in pressure between normal air pressure and the pressure in your intake manifold. The is both negative and positive pressure. A perfect vacuum is -1bar.
  • Absolute pressure takes into account the 1bar of normal atmospheric pressure. The scale starts at 0bar for a perfect vacuum. 1bar is where you cross from vacuum into positive pressure (boost).

So a 1bar sensor can only measure vacuum (N/A cars).
2bar measures up to 1bar boost ~14.7psi
3bar measures up to 2bar boost ~29.4psi
4bar measures up to 3bar boost ~44.1psi
and there are specially made MAP sensors that go higher.



And you can't flash your 97 ECU.
 
ok so by your definition it would be a 2.5 bar map sensor then.

But, Why? is the Question. I don't think you getting what everone is saying to you... Unless your gonna use it to log boost or are converting to SD there's is no purpose for it...So which is it?
 
There is no reason to use a MAP sensor unless you have some device(DSMlink, AEM, haltech, etc...) that can tell you what it's reading. If you have one of these, a MAP sensor is a wonderful tuning tool, or a necessity with speed density. Why do you wan't to install this sensor?

I think the SRT-4 MAP sensor is only 2bar. <-That's what my quick search has lead me to believe.

You can't just wire that MAP sensor in place of the MDP sensor. It won't work. The outputs are different. To use a MAP in place of the MDP, you need to change some of the code on the ECU. You can't do that with a 97 ECU. Even then most people don't even mess around with anything less than a 3bar MAP sensor. I would have maxed out that 2bar sensor while I was still running the stock T25.

Just sell it.

I'm probably going to just get a 4bar MAP when I switch to a speed density setup in the spring.

only problem with the larger 4 bar sensor is you loss resolution so unless you plan on running more than 30 psi I'd stick with a 3 bar map...
