I don't smoke, but darn if this thing doesn't make a great phone charger.

But before I go at wiring it, I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

To clarify, the ground slides onto the metal piece coming out the end of the outlet (point 1.), and the power cable is attached to the ring terminal on the side (point 2.)?

2skippy is right. That's how mine is wired and it works just fine. In addition to this, I pulled the cigar outlet from a 3g eclipse (because it has a flip cover) that I'm gonna add to my console so I have 2 power outlets. I don't smoke either, but sometimes need more than 1.

Thanks! I can finally get this working now. Just have to remember red to the inside, black to the outside.

Hmmm. Sounds like someone tinkered with your wires already. Black is obviously the ground, but the positive came blue from the factory. Might even be blue with a white stripe.

You're correct, it is blue.

Turns out that ring terminal isn't able to be replaced.

Two words my friend, junk yard. I've built a collection of small parts from DSMs in junk yards so I got spares if they break. One such part being the ring that goes around the lighter socket that lights up. That's your best place to start since the piece is small enough to just throw in your pocket :thumb:

There's more than one thing that I've meant to go pickup from a junk yard, thankfully I was able to salvage this.

Thanks everyone for your help. With the magic of wire and electrical tape I managed to extend the ground, add some connectors, and get the outlet working.
