Winter experience anyone?

I just got my 1g dsm and I was wondering if anyone knows if they will start in -40 to -50 degrees F weather without a block heater. My old car did but I sold it. Here in Montana you get the worst of both worlds 107F in the summer and -50F in the winter .

You can also get a magnetic oilpan heater that you plug in. You just stick it on your oilpan and the magnet holds it there, it keeps your oil warm so when you cold start the oil isn't so thick and slow

I have one of those that I use to use on an old Buick Century that sat outside. I used it on really cold nights (for me) of 0-single digit lows and I could definitely tell a difference in ease of starting/less engine noise when using it.

Now however, I just use it on "cold starts" for my Talon to help get the 20w50 oil flowing a little easier. Since I only drive the car on special occations I usually plug it in the night before I drive it just to help warm the thick oil even though the car is in the garage and it's summertime. I figure every little bit helps.

just park one of these in front of it for about 5 minutes before you start it up and you will be fine...

I had a 91 Galant VR4 when i lived in Miles City montana (my hometown), and Never had an issue with it. I did have a block heater in it and used it when there was really cold nights, but that was about it. And if i remember right, that car really loved the snow

I'm in Canada, -40C,-58 with winchills, no block heater, started everytime, loud ass belts and power steering tho untill it warmed up this will be first winter where she will be parked, car is 97 gst

Also a Canadian, this is definitly true. My Laser started in -40*C and worse over the winter.
