window trim....how the hell?

the trim underneath my windows is all cracked and silver, so I decided to take it off, clean them and then re-paint them, but how the hell do you get them off? I was prying at them today but I was afraid that I was gonna crack them. Is there any easy way to get them off without breaking them? Thanks in advance
