Hi, I am replacing my passenger side window. Got one from the junkyard for pretty cheap, got it cleaned up, ready to put it in. Noticed it has the brackets and washers are on it already. Was wondering should I leave them on, and peel off the black trim to fit it down, or remove all that hardware and bolt it on after dropping the glass into the door. Never done this  Any other tips are appreciated. Thanks,
Mike

IIRC: remove everything from the glass you are installing except the two plastic inserts pressed into the glass. You will attach it to the regulator assy with two screws.

Yep exactly what ^^^ said. When you got the window who ever took it out probably left the brackets still on it...and your window assy will have them on it.

I did this like 2 months ago...not fun. You have to squeeze the window through the small opening and bolting the stuff up once the window is in is somewhat tricky but doable. Just be patient and take your time. Make sure everything is on tight otherwise stuff will come loose when the door gets slammed.

Went out there and tried today, before checking back to see if anyone had replied. After an hour and a half I gave up for the day and I will return tomorrow. I tried to leave some of the brackets on the window but it just wouldnt fit down into the small opening, and I saw what a bi*** it looked like to put them on AFTER the glass was into the door. When you say two plastic inserts, what are you referring to? This is what I found on the glass:

Metal bracket on the end closest to the front of the door. Had a U peice of plastic on it.

2 or 3 metal rings with bolts sticking out of them, bolts onto the door peice that goes up and down.

On end closest to door, metal ring connected to a roller that goes up and down the track

Two plastic clips pointing upwards connected with a bolt, not sure what they do.

Thanks,
Mike

I've had to replace 2 windows and remove 2 more to replace my door handles, I've gotten It down to about 10-15 minutes for removal-instaliation LOL, You have to have all plastic/metal pieces bolted in place before attempting to put the window in, it's nearly Impossible to do it inside the door, there just isn't enough room. A Haynes Manual would be a good idea at this point because there are several holes to bolt various pieces up to, and it helps to have it on right the 1st time.

In these instructions I'm assuming you removed the plastic vaper barrior and door panel

Once the Window has the proper pieces bolted to it (up-stops, regulator attachment bolts, and track slide, and roller), you will have to remove the rear view mirrior and window stabilizers from the door, as well as the door speaker and plastic housing.

make sure the window regulator is fully rolled down the entire time

First remove all the door molding, then slide the track guide (end of window nearest hinges) into the door opening, and hold the window high in the opening this entire paragraph .... then you have to slip the roller (side farthest away from hinges) into the enlarged opening about 6" into the door. In order to do that the window has to be slid as close to it's hinges as possible horozontially, one of the window regulator bolts (closest to hinges) will probably seem too wide to go through the opening while your trying to manuever the window into place, you have to pull the window opening so that it flexes and becomes wider in order to do this... make sure you are holding the glass tight, because at that point the bolt will be the only thing holding it from falling into the door. It's ok to force a little bit, but just be sure not to let the window come crashing down when the bolt has cleared the opening.

All this takes place with the window very high in the opening. When the window is in , you can then fit it so the roller and slideare in their tracks and the window is guided throughout it's up and down process

From there it's easy, the bolts in the window slide in the holes for the regulator (one is behind the door speaker which is why I told you to remove it earlier) and the other is in plain view in the door opening. Reassemble and your done.

is the removal of the sideview mirror necessary? when does not having that help the window fit?

when you say remove the trim, there is trim on both the inside and outside of the glass. do both come out?

Thanks for your detailed description and help.

Mike

one more thing. sorry. when you said take out the stabilizers, I see two kind of U shape metal bars with 2 bolts in them, one closer to the hinges, one closer to the farther end of the door. Are those two U shape bars the only things I need to remove, or do I need to take out the screw/plastic peice below those as well.

The inside trim has to come out, the outside can stay. The side view mirrior has to be removed in order to get the window to slide over far enough horizontally to get the roller to fit, it's just 3 bolts and you can leave the harness attatched and the mirrior hanging.

Those plastic hooks on the window are stoppers/stabilizers to keep the window from josteling around when rolled up and from rolling up too far.

Also, the stabilizers in the door (there are 2 of them) have 2 bolts in per stabilizer (for a total of 4 bolts) ... there is another set of plastic pieces that are also shaped like a "U" but have only one bolt per piece which stay bolted where they are the entire time.

The stabilizers in the door have felt on the ones your removing and plastic on the ones that are staying in.

good luck!

hello. Just got out of the garage, I did what you said step by step and that was a perfect explanation. thank you very much for your help. Creating a tech article on window replacement would not be a bad idea for a 2g :) it was a lot easier with the moldings/stabilizers/sideview mirror removed. I will try and get some pics for that. Thanks again. Mike
