I was given a ticket last night for my exhaust and now I have to get a new stock exhaust, but he didn't say what stock exhaust it could be. So I was wondering what stock muffler on any car looks good and flows good so I can just replace my muffler.

Now I'm not sure about the laws in Louisiana, so I may be wrong in my thinking. But since you don't have that CARB shit that california does, shouldn't you be able to modifiy your exhaust system any way that you want, as long as it passes emissions and isn't too loud? You probably got pulled over for being too loud, unless your muffler has an 8'' tip and is hanging off the back of the car or something too unsightly. Sorry I really don't know if the 3G muffler will fit though.

I just called three different police places and they said that ANY modification to the muffler is in violation of the law. So now I am looking for an Evo or 3g muffler to put on my car.

I just called again (I think I am getting on their nerves) The officer told me that as long as it is CARB legal and passed emissions that I can have any exhaust I want. I don't want an exhaust that is loud but just one that flows better than stock. I think I am going to get the Apex'i WS2 because I heard that one was quiet.

If your N/T, you could just get the exhaust from a stock 2g turbo. From what I've heard, its a good upgrade both in performance and sound from n/a exhaust. I'm sure most people around here have the old muffler just sitting around and would give theirs to you for next to nothing...or maybe even nothing.

get the stock muffler off the GS-T, NOT THE GSX it wont fit. lower tone and it helps improve throttle response and a little on low end.

You can't mod your stock exhaust... They are right about that. But you can totally replace it. Just tell them it is an aftermarket one because your stock one rusted through.

95-99 stock gs-t catback is the way to go, i put one on my non turbo..technically it is stock eclipse piping...loopholes are beautiful. try it and see for yourself, cheap, helps performance..and great sounding.

I've been thinking about this mod too. I wanna take the "fart can" off, but wasn't sure which muffler would be the most compatible with the 2.0 n/t and weld right up to the 2 1/4 " piping. The 2g gs-t, or the 3g 4cyl., or the 3g 6cyl. ?

The muffler section of the 2g GS-T will bolt in place of the 2gnt muffler section - no welding required.

haha, yea, if that were the case, I would do it myself. But theres nothing left to bolt up to from my stock pipe. Its been around the block a few times when it comes to mufflers, LOL.

So then the 2g GS-T muffler is a more compatible piece than any of the 3g stock mufflers? I'm assuming yes, since its within the same model year, but does the 3g muffler mount up just as well too?

i agree on telling them you have an after market exhaust, i had the same problem here in ny a few times i kept getting pulled over for a loud exhaust. i did a little research for what they consider loud given i live down the road from a drag strip and found in ny it was 120 db 15 feet from your car at 3000 rpms. thats what they need to be able to check. only happened once sense i looked it up. when i was pulled over i simply asked if the officer had a db reader in the car so we could check, he didnt ......

so long story short just because your told its to loud does not mean it legally is to loud id check into the local sound laws in your area

By "stock", the government means the exhaust built on the car by the manufacturer. Not the exhaust built for another model. Not one from another year.
Any muffler shop can put a legal exhaust under your car for not much money. They'll know if you need a muffler, a resonator, a section of tubing, or all of the above.
