Will 1g Maf get overrun on this setup?

Hey guys. I'm currently putting together parts for my gvr4 before I make some drastic changes to my stock daily driver;). I have a 2g mas setup that came with the car, but my dejon pipe will require me venting the bov which, as far as I'm concerned, is a big no no. I was wondering if my 1g maf will suffice for a conservative tune on an fp 68hta setup with pte 680s. I'm only shooting for right around 300whp. I am aware that the 1g maf is only good for 28lb/min on the stock setup, but I wasn't sure how much extra room the larger injectors will give me. So my question is, will my 1g maf get overrun on this setup?

In terms of maf frequency, airflow is independent of fuel or injector size. 28lb/min is 28lb/min regardless of any setup or configuration. If you're shooting for 300whp, you'll be looking at about 35lb/min. I would definitely keep the 2g maf setup.

even venting the 1g bov? i can crush/dg mod it to keep it from leaking at idle, but everyone always flames on venting a bov with a pre-turbo maf. i can live with occasional stalling at lights and i'm not doing it for sound reasons (just to clear up the whole ricer debate LOL).

I was told by my tuner that any maf will work for my setup and that tuning capabilities are much more advanced than they were back when "hacking" the maf was big. He said it won't matter if it misses counts above the 2000hz. All he needs is to look at airflow, and it's the tune up to that point that counts. Does this sound on point?

He said he can get it to run just fine with the 1g maf and that he'd rather see me run that than vent the stock bov, which I am aware is not ideal.

Grab the 2g or the gm maft so you can vent, how are you tuning those 680s 300 whp, nice goal but make sure you have the supporting mods, fuel, wideband, a good tune, or a way to see what going on.

Recirculating or not recirculating your BOV is going to have zero effect on how the MAF sensor reads airflow. The answer to this question is simple. Your horsepower goal requires a larger amount of airflow than the stock 1G MAF can accurately read. You need to look into alternative methods for this particular system. That means using one of the following: 2G MAF, Evo MAF, GM MAF, speed density. About a million and a half people have made 300 whp using these methods and any of them can be done for fairly cheap. Why even waste time on the stock 1G MAF? As far as the intake pipe goes, if your parts are not compatible with what you want or need to do, then you need new parts, simple as that.

supporting mods are not an issue. the question was simply if I could get to my goal using the 1g maf or if i would have to use a 2g mas, which i got my answer for. the venting of my bov is only because I already have a dejon pipe for using a 2g mas in a 1g car. however, it does not have a recirc fitting. i am aware that it does not affect maf reading aside from the fact that you are dumping already metered air. no parts need to be purchased, as i already have the full setup. i was just unsure if it would make more sense to run the 1g maf to avoid venting the bov, but from what everyone says aside from my tuner, it will not get me to 300whp

If your tuner is using ECMLink then he is correct. You can clamp the MAS reading above a certain HZ and fake the MAS reading when it would normally be overrun(For a 1g MAS I would use 1800-2000 depending on where your reading is the most stable after you reach full boost on a 3rd gear pull) It works fine on a well calibrated system and is a whole lot easier if you are logging a MAP sensor. In that instance it would be fine tuning wise, but still be a huge restriction.

However, I have used a stock 1g snorkel on a 2g MAS. It goes on there with MUCH effort. Heat it up with a hairdryer first and it is much easier!!!

So it's really up to you which way you would rather run it. Personally, I'd vote for a 2g MAS and a Home Depot racing intake pipe that you can make in about an hour for about $30! I still have one on my car!:D

Your goal youll need to know if your close to blowing up your engine without the proper mods no way around that, or chance it. Just do the proper way to vent to the bov, I guess I didn't read your mods if your tuner is running ecmlink then follow his advice. Grab a 2g maf Its cheap enough.
