1G Road racing and autocross guys, I'm currently running 17x8.5 -35 offset rims with 235/40/17 tires and they fit fine but I want wider tires for Auto-X. I need to know if 18x10.5 +15mm offset rims will fit with 275x35x18 Hoosier R6s will fit and not rub anything major. I'm running megan coilovers so hitting the spring perch on the strut isnt an issue. I'm not worried about them sticking out or rubbing the tops since my springs are really stiff and the current setup doesnt come anywhere near the outside lip of the fender in hard corners, mainly worried that they will rub inner fenders or front/back outside fenders at full lock. I know they will fit on a 2g and not rub bad with 285x40x18s on them but cant find for definite anyone running them on a 1G.

Thanks

"Really stiff" springs and Megan "Racing" shocks sounds like a disaster to me...

What's your definition of fit?

They'll be poking out the fenders a LOT, and it'll look pretty stupid IMO. I guess that's acceptable in autocross where you're just looking for grip. Are you going to be able to get a tire that size to temp?

You'd never want it in road racing though, aero drag/turbulence/whatever would go through the roof.

I had a whole snarky reply about actually fitting...then deleted it when he said he didn't care about them sticking out. ;)

Yeah im not worried about looks, they will just be track tires and rims anyway. I really only use the car for autocross right now anyway so I dont care that they stick out, just concerned that they will rub the fronts or rear of the fender openings or the inner portions on the front of the car.

so far the Megan coilovers are working well for autocross, the car doesnt pitch much at all in the corners and the ride stiffness isnt as bad as I expected. Granted going over decent sized bumps and whatnot at 100mph plus on backroads gets a little hairy at times but that was expected also.

Only pokes a lil, :p

FYI -you could easily fit 255 tire on your current 17x8.5 rim.

This would not only save you lots of $, which could be spent on a better suspension and or seat time, but would also look a lot less...pokey.

Just my .02

235/40/17 is the widest i can go with the current rims, they rub just a bit on the inner fenders at full lock.
better suspension would be a set of custom ohlins at about $5k and honestly it wouldnt improve my times by much at all. I can get rims and tires for about $1800ish The car is just too heavy for the tires I got, they are planting correctly but dont have enough contact patch to hold what I need. Im not willing to take any more weight out of the car since ive already removed everything that I deemed unessential.

18x10.5 +15, 275/35/18 R888. Would need serious fender work to have proper travel. I'm currently running 18x10 +38 with a 275/35/18 Z1 in the rear, and it fits nicely with just notching the trailing arm. I haven't tried the front yet but will soon.

Wow! lowell, I looked at your gallery and now im really jealous LOL. So the +38s fit better in the rear, are you thinking they will poke out too much and hit the fenders in the front? With the +15s on the front what fender work would I need to do? or where do they hit? I seen you have some "interesting" suspension improvements on front and rear, has that changed the ride height or wheel position at all making them hit more or less in the front? Mine is still mostly stock components minus coil overs and slightly lowered inch or less in the front and rear. I might have to just run +15s in the front and +38s rear unless the +38s will clear on the front better also. I believe ill go with the 275/35/18s also. I dont really have much suspension travel front or rear due to stiff autocross springs probably 2 inches up and down in the front and an inch up in the rear is all I see during a run.

A+ on the your car btw! and thanks for the info.

+15s hang out about 2" all around, so will require flares or metal working. My front and rear tracks are slightly wider than stock, and the plan is to run an 18x10 +38 on the front by adjusting the control arm length until clearance all around is ideal.
