wideband and mmcd

Just wondering if I can simply buy the wideband sensor and use with mmcd or if the sensor needs some kind of a power source? Where does the wideband voltage come from? Do I still have to buy an entire kit with the wideband sensor box or can I connect the sensor directly to the palm pilot?

You have to buy the whole kit. The wideband does have to get power from somewhere. I think mine is either wired in with my radio or cig lighter. You could view the wideband on the palm but you would have to wire it into the ecu through some input, then view it on the logger, and then convert the volts seen on the palm to actual afr. A real big pain. But you have to have the kit regardless.

Would MMCD support that input? Would you have to calibrate it so that MMCD shows the correct AFR for the correct voltage? I've never used MMCD, but I've been reading up. Being able to use it along with a wideband O2 would be cool...

You guys could always get a wideband that also supports an narrow band output (like AEM EUGO) and then wire it into your ECU in place of the existing narrow band sensor's wire.

If you do this, you need to keep the existing narrow band sensor's heater wires hooked up, otherwise you will get a CEL for a bad O2 sensor.

From there, MMCD will just log data from the wideband's narrow band output directly into the input to the ECU itself.

i don't understand. What's the point of having a wideband if you're just going to convert it back to narrowband. You wont gain any information off that will you? Would that be the same as just hooking up a narrow band a/f gauge in the car?

You need a wideband controller. Which in the case of the AEM UEGO, its built in and includes the gauge. Innovate LC-1 has a controller and there are a few gauge options. I purchased my LC-1 with gauge for $200. You can get the AEM for around the same price. What they are saying is you can simulate a narrowband signal with the wideband controllers and splice the wire(s) into your corresponding wire(s) for the ecu oxygen sensor signal.

I have a 1g and run the "Native Wideband" code where i operate the car on the 5volt scale instead of 1volt. I have my LC-1 signal wire spliced into the oxygen signal wire on the ecu. I have yet to throw a CEL and it operates as should. I'm assuming you could do the same for narrowband using the correct wires.

If you bought a wideband, why would you not get the gauge and not use a logger. You might as well just buy a stock o2 sensor

Logging a simulated narrowband output would do you even less good than logging a narrowband. Just hook an output from the wideband to the EGR temp ECU input and log that, or mod an EPROM to accept the wideband input for closed loop control. You also need to keep in mind that usually there is a slight voltage offset when inputting into the ECU. The ones I've done have showed about .04V different to the ECU than it really is.

Yea i agree i have my aem UEGO hooked up to mmcd and the afr is slightly off from what my gauge reads, it always logs slightly leaner.

MMCD appears to read about 0.4:1 richer than my LC-1's gauge. I could play with programming the wideband to match it up, but it's not an urgent thing right now, lot of other stuff to do first.

so color wire on the ecu wiring harness will I need to tap into for the aem uego. I bought it and have it hooked up. I just need to splice the analog wire in somewhere. I have two analog wires coming off the uego. I guess I'll need to see which wire is the correct one.
