When I checked the oil with the dipstick (obviously) the oil level was fine but there was a black swirl in it. I use Castrol GTX 10w 40...my motor in all new with only 1500 miles on it. What is the black stuff? Car starts fine, runs fine, no weird noises. It's never been tuned though and is modded. Runs very rich.
Oh yea, the oil pressure was normal too and the temp was operating normal as usual.

If its running rich, change your oil more often, or get it tuned. Your going to wash out your bearings meaning engine rebuild or replacement.

It could also be that you dipstick isn't sealing properly and your getting condensation, or the dipstick itself is sweating, from the hot vs cold temperatures this time of year. Wipe it off, and check it again. If you still see a change in substance, you have bigger issues, mainly tuning from the sound of it.

I did check it several times and it does come up more blackish-greenish now that the daylight is out. I had to replace the bearings in my car back in May this past year because of a bad BS eliminator kit. But, since then I've only put 240 mildly driven miles on it. I've changed the oil 3 times since within that 240 miles too since the rod bearing replacement. Do you think it's just gas? It dumps black smoke when I start driving from a stop. Never tuned. Could I have damaged it again within 240 miles?

Does it smell like gas?
How do you know its running rich, from the black smoke coming out the back?

Have you changed the oil since you first started it?

yeah, it smells like fuel...pretty bad too. The oil level is still within the correct level though and it still feels like oil though maybe a little on the thin side.

Could just be a Temp Sensor failure - BUT - There IS a well documented scenario over YEARS of Posts where P/S Fluid leaks kill Voltage regulator in Alt - V/R fails to high Voltage - High Voltage cooks the chips in ECU that control Injectors - Injectors fail to WFO - & Crankcase eventually floods with Gas - Dipstick reads WAY high - You MAY bend a Rod trying to compress the Gas, but by that time Car won't even run so you bend Rod with the Starter Motor believe it or not...
