Resolved why is my battery recharging on acc

I just got off work and thought I'd sit in the car till 9 when my bank opens. And I'm listening to music with amp off. I installed a toggle for it.

12.1 does not look like it's charging, if it were charging it would be sitting at 13.6-14.1. All that picture shows is you have been using the battery and it dropped from 12.6 (normal b+ while car is off) and are draining the battery.

No. It started at 11.8. It got to 12.4 before a good song game on for sub's so I started the car. The battery should be draining if I'm listening to music in acc mode. Not....charging. Use a dmm for a correct reading, I honestly would not trust it.

That seems like it would be very difficult to do over time. It took 6 mins to gain .2 volts.

Stop and think. With the radio playing and car off, how can you generate power. If you figure it out, sell the process for billions. Tesla would love it.

What if(hypothetically). The speakers and tweeters are being slightly overloaded with energy so the battery volt really does start at 12.4, but turning everything drains it to 11.8. Now because those speakers have overloaded energy it is put back through the system into the battery there fore recharging it back to its original level?

If the car was shut off and once you began listening to the music, the voltage was 11.8, there is an alternator problem. The batt should stay 12.6+ for a few days after car is off. And the voltage rising I figure is from when you were driving bumping the snoopthe50centthriftshop tunes with the amp on, then shutting amp off, which lowers the current draw from battery which slightly raises the available voltage reading, side effect from a batteries' internal resistance.

Oh the other possibility is that volt thing your using, if its not tied in directly at the battery or at least a place of minimul voltage drop (ie not hooked at amp) then its not a reliable reading.

Lead Acid Batteries can do what they want to and they will gain voltage on themselves due to the sulfuric acid. Even Alkaline batteries will gain a slight gain in voltage when resting . And to see less than a half volt difference in ACC isn't anything to worry about.

True, check with A VOM (or DMM as they are now called), but still nothing to fret over.

<_< I'm not fretting. Just wondering if anyone was as intelligent as you are could answer the question. Wasn't even completely sure if there was a plausible answer.

Batteries are just weird in their own special way. Even carbon zinc flashlight batteries get weird when they want to.

When you're dealing with any product that depends on any chemical based interaction to produce an action, it all of a sudden has a mind of its own since the interaction within the product has so many variances that there is no set rule - we just learn to live with it.

And that is the best plausible answer to offer to you. Thus, enjoy life and happy driving !

Excuse me for saying this but all the drawn out sentences, words and punctuation you just whipped together all seem to sum up to two things, that batteries gain voltage in an absolute shelf mode, and they are a mysterious, chemical based energy storing device that the average Joe hasn't a clue to how they work.

Care to back up this information?

Without current flow, battery voltage won't change. Add a load and voltage drops. This is where Optima shines -lower internal resistance. Less voltage drop when loaded. When load is removed, voltage creeps back up as battery cools.

Fundamentally, it's simple ohms law.

Yeah the car should sit at 14v or so when charging at idle.
