Is anyone running an aluminized steel exhaust? I'm just curious. Dejon sells just piping without a muffler (which is what I want), but its aluminized steel. How is everyone elses' exhaust holding up? $190 is a far cry from $450 for a Buschur, which is probably the next closest thing to what I want.

Almost every local I know runs aluminized with no issues. If you want, you could spray it high-temp black I guess.

Interesting. And you're in PA too. I've seen them rust out in a matter of months on other cars, but then some rice boys get them bent up at the local Midas and run them for 5 years with no problems...

I run it and I bought my car with it on there and he had it done two years ago and it is in great shape.

I made my 3" catback out of aluminized from napa....cost me a total of $70 for 2 90* bends and 10' of straight pipe.

My non-stainless lasted about 1 winter before it got a hole in it (not sure on the company, I bought it new off of a fellow DSMer)... I am using it 1 more winter with the hole in it then switching to stainless this spring.

Possibly the most common exhaust for DSMs (the Apexi N1), has aluminized steel piping. This is the exhaust I've had on my GST for the past three years and it has held up very nicely. A little rust has developed along the seam welding (see picture), but other than that its in good shape.

Downpipes will generally last longer because they run hotter. It's where the pipe never get too hot that the rusting usually occures. I've been using my 2 1/2" steel piping for 2 years with no problems but only a little bit of winter driving. Generally from what i've seen, after 3 years of year round driving, its usually time for new exhaust again. But spraying the pipe with some cold galvanizing or some high temp paint can help....along with washing your car after driving through a bunch of salt.

I work at midas and we always use Alumanized steel for out exhuasts. For one welding stainless steel to alumanized steel is always a pain. The aluma-steel will work just fine and i have a aluma-steel custom downpipe and a thermal stainless steel catback and i cant tell a diffrence between the two corrosion wise! Yes and you can always use some high temp PJ1 coating to keep away rust.

On my old Accord I got a custom aluminized steel catback, just to replace stock. Idiots reused the busted flex joint which rusted out and the whole thing had to be redone a year later. This is due to the Rhode Island winters, salt *everwhere*! It's surface rust that just gets to eat away, and it showed up nearly instantly on the bends and welds. The easiest thing is just to paint it when you get it, should slow down the surface rust. Sure, it'll wear off from rocks and such and isn't much protection, but you just want to slow down the surface rust.

I'm in Hawaii now, and I have no rust problems. I figured it'd be bad cause of the ocean, but since I live inland I have no probs. I'd probably go aluminized steel with paint unless you're spending a lot of money and want the thing to last forever.

I've had the VRS aluminized exhaust for about a year and it seems to be in good shape still. I live in Central NY and drove it all winter.

SS looks good and may last longer but its also heavier.

I had aluminized for over 3 years, every spring i would take some rattle can paint, and spray all of the welds and bolts because they will rust out. Do that and you should be good to go.

Yes i said Heavier. Why? you think SS is lighter than aluminized steel?

I just thought it was funny. The weight issue on the exhaust is not a problem. The weight difference is minimal. Thats like taking the 2 pounds of plastic parts in the rear to save weight. SS is way better and the weight difference dont make it bad at all.

i once had a titanium exhuast on my dirtbike. Once you heated it up it would look soo cool:D . Can you belive a titanium dirtbike exhasut and a DSM titanuim exhaust cost the same? About $700 and the DSM one has 50 times more titanium.

well i have an apexi n1 catback, all the flanges are rustin to hell and the back of the muffler is rusting out. of course i just bought it and it has been through a winter or two. SS is definitely the way to go, i used to have ss on my old car, 6 years no problem! well it was also garaged too in the winter, that helps

Well see, this is what I'm worried about. The N1 that most of you guys are running is completely coated. The Dejon piping is only coated at the flanges and welds, so I'm thinking the pipe will rust in a matter of minutes.

I just find it hard to justify spending $450 on a Buschur when all I need is 8' of straight pipe and a 45* bend, that's rediculous.
