White smoke from TSI

Hey,

I'm looking at purchasing a 91 AWD TSI, and it seems to be in damn good shape. Only thing is, at idle there is whiteish smoke. It doens smell sweet, nor does it make my hand damp. Engine was rebuilt 10K ago (head too, tit. valve springs, stainless valves) but the turbo is orginal with 174K on it. Could it be the turbo seal? I'd do a compression test, but a friend is borrowing mine, and I've already gone to see the car 2x and it isnt exactly close

Could just be condensation, especially if it is getting cold out. You could check to see if there is any foaming or bubbles in the cooling system. How bad is it smoking and does it do it when accelerating?

Thanks for the quick reply. No foaming or bubbling in the cooling system *did check fot that* car does not overheat, and I did not notice it while I was accelerating. But that doesnt mean it wasnt there . It was pretty cold out when I looked at it last, and I did a cold start up (BTW: is it normal for DSMs to idle ~2K for about 15 seconds at startup before settling down to a STEADY 850rpms?) When I lookeded at first, the car was idling and warm and tehre was still that thing white smoke (If i remeber correctly)

on a cold start up mine also jumps up to around 2k rpms then it goes down slowly till warm up....even warmed up starting up it goes up to 2kish and drops down...
