okay i have white smoke coming out threw the back and am not sure what could be causing it? its not a consant flow but i seen the car doing it a cuple of times then its stops. I have a boost leak that am working on to fix, could this be the problem? or is oil getting in some where its not ment to go? thanks for the help.

white smoke could be some kind of antifreeze problem such as a bad headgasket or even as simple as condensation in your exhaust piping. When does it happen and for how long?

Blue smoke is typically oil burning, it doesnt seem like thats the case.

greyish smoke is running rich, it could also be this if you have a boost leak.

I also had a problem with white smoke coming out the back of my car. I later found out that i had a bad valve cover gasket, and it was leaking oil and then burning up causing the white smoke. As soon as i replaced it the smoke stop and hasn't come back since.

You can by one at any auto parts store for about 35$ or
so an installation was fairly simple.

well hope this helps. :thumb:

I also had this same problem, first thought my turbo was junk so I replaced that with the T28 and it still smoked so I shut it down for the winter and got the whole motor rebuilt(timing belt, HG, new valves, seals, ect....) and it hasnt smoked since I got it back. I would smoke only when I was running and at a stop, at idle. Hope this helps :thumb:

White smoke is no oil, it is coolant.

To fix your problem you need to find your problem.
You need to do a compression test. You need to get those boost leaks fixed also.
When is it smoking exactly? Does it always smoke at idle, or does it smoke only after you get higher into your rpm band? Does it only smoke when you spool your turbo?

Even better question, are you sure the smoke is white? (Refer to Denji's post)

Hello,
i have this same problem also but my engine is practically new, i did a 6-bolt swap and changed head gasket and put in new rings and a whole seal set.

I have not changed the valve cover gasket but i did that like 3 years ago.

What should i do?

I love Copy & Paste....

OK 2 answer ur question yes ur boost leak can cause it....ever blow off an intercooler pipe an smoke poor out of ur car? ive done it plenty of times fix the leak and c if it doesn't help. if it doesnt you will need new seals.
But i believe i know what ur talking about...happens when ever ur turbo releases pressure and goes into vacuum?

hope it helps

to me it happens when i'm at a stop, not always but it does happen, when i'm moving it doesn't do it but after the car warms up and i hit a stop light, just cruising, it starts smoking white.

So i need new valve seals?

hey thanks to everyone for the help. the white smoke only happens when am idling and its not often. I ordered some replacement pipes for the intercooler already and if that doesn't help then I'll try to mess with the seal. I had a friend tell me that if i was to taste the something sweet coming out of the exhaust if was antifreeze but that wasn't the case. thanks a lot for the help. :thumb: this is just another reason why i love my car.
