ok i do not really know a lot if really anything about wastegates...but i am building my motor and running a precision pt61 so which wastegate should i go with 38 or 44 im going with Tial too if that has anything to do with it

TiALs are definatly a great brand of choice.

a 38mm should suffice, but there is no real downsides with the exception of just price when considering the 44mm.

Can find prices and pictures here

I have a Turbonetics evolution 38mm external wastegate. Mine came with multiple springs so I could set different boost levels. I have no problems with it. I got it from SlowBoy Racing. How much boost do you plan on running? If you plan on running low boost you will want to get the bigger wastegate since it will have to bypass more exhaust gasses.

its not really a drag car i just want a nice dyno pull and just cruise it from whatever that number is so idk prob 25psi if possible

38mm one will be fine with 25psi. If you plan on running under 15psi for whatever reason I would get a bigger wastegate.

cool does you guys accept the car care one credit card by chance?

I'm not sure at this moment, 3am ahha, but you should add the TiAL to the shopping cart and see how the checkout goes. I believe if paypal will accept it, it should work. give it a shot.

checkout is fast and easy on our site.

I've had no problem with boost creep running a 38mm tial at 8psi. I actually don't think I've ever seen a boosted 420a using a 44mm wastegate

I wasn't trying to make it like every car would have problems with it. I just meant that there are quite a few cars that have problems with it. This of course has to do with more things then just the wastegate.

so, terrible thread res, don't hate me, but figured it was easier than starting a new one....
Larger wastegate(44mm) over smaller(38mm)?
I'm not sure I understand how they work. Bigger wastegate means it can let out more air.......so you can run a lower psi??
So say I wanted to run 12psi.....38mm wastegate? But then I wanted to turn it up to 24psi, sould the same wastegate still work, or would I need to buy a bigger(or smaller) one?
Lost...

38mm wastegate's are the norm and seem to work for most. You should go with a bigger wastegate if you intend on exhausting a LOT of gas, such as from high displacement, high boost, (more boost = more exhaust, it only takes so much to spin the turbine and maintain boost, so the extra needs to be bypassed) high rpm, methanol, &c...

Locke said most of what needed to be said. For the most part a 38 will suffice unless you want to run a low psi number with a very high exhaust flow. The TiAL 38mvs is a low profile design and is much smaller than the 44mm version so there may be fitment issues as well. From what I've seen, the 44mm uses a 4 bolt pattern while the 38 is either a double bolt mounting or a v band connection depending on which model you go with.

You would want to check to make sure your emissions will pass with having a dump tube as it's classified as an exhaust leak. There are many people that get irritated with the noise over time and you will only hear the dump tube when you go WOT and hit your selected psi number and there is the possibility of the dump tube placement [possibly] burning/melting under hood components. In some cases there are gains in HP due to less exhaust back pressure in the piping and the lack of turbulance that the recirctulating pipe can cause depending on the angle and placement of it entering the exhaust.

I personally went with the Punishment Racing MVS o2 housing (recirculated). 38mm is a very good size for most applications and what I would need, v banded connection, and recirculated for emission reason and so I don't have to have more exhaust noise than needed.

LiquidX. All 44 mm from tial is vband bro. 38 is not band LOL. Anyways. I am still yet to hear an open dump 420a. I am running open dump tho just haven't drove her yet. helps keep the turbulence down.. But most people think its loud and annoying and I agree on the 4g63 it is very nasty sound LOL. But my friend evo8. Omg LOL sounds like a crotch rocket.

38mm is BOTH, the MVS is the shorter v band unit.

You are right in that the 44mm is v band. The 40, 41, and 46mm use the 4 bolt pattern. The MV-R is the 44mm replacement which is shorter in height. Just like the MV-S.

so, here's another question...
looking at tial wastegates, many of them say 1 bar...I know bar is just another measurement for boost, but here are my 2 Qs.
1. What is the conversion rate from bar to psi?
2. What if I want to go above this amount of boost? Do I need to buy another wastegate??
