I have a couple of turbos in mind but am not sure which one to get for my set up. I have the following

PTE 550cc injectors
walbro 190
large fmic
2.5in hard pipes
tubo xs bov
fp race mani
megan racing o2 housing
full 3in turbo back exhaust
gm maf
mbc

I dont know if I should go with the evo 3 big 16g or the fp green turbo. After reading up on the green I really like it and think it will be amazing but might not be for me. I only plan on running 18psi for dd reasons. Would the green turbo be good for that amount of boost or should i just go with the smaller 16g. I just dont know what I will want to do in the future and thats why I want the green.

I would get the green simply because of not upgrading later like you mentioned. You will need bigger injectors though for either turbo. The 16g can max them out and I wouldn't run 18psi with the green with those injectors.

not really goals just whatever, I mod for fun. so 550's wont handle 18psi w/ a 190 pump?? damn. Would a green work well with only 18psi or so, or would it be worse off then just getting a 16g.

I wouldn't attempt to run 18psi with those injectors and a green. The green will be fine with 18psi and will also be faster then a 16g with 18psi.

can my 190 handle any bigger injector that a 550 i heard 580's but not to sure if that will hadle the psi now eather  i just ordered the 550's:beatentodeath:

If you want to run 18psi on any of those turbo's, I suggest upgrading your injectors. This of course depends on what you are using to tune with. 18PSI on a 16g is nice for a DD. But to run this, you should buy a nice big FMIC so you don't have to deal with knock from your SMIC heat soaking.

And just as a rule of thumb, PSI will make different power levels on different turbos because the larger ones will actually flow more at a certain PSI then a smaller one. Think 15psi on a T25 compared to 15PSI on a 50 Trim. TOTALLY different playing field my friend.

So if you are stuck between the 16g and the FPGreen (20g) then choose the middle. Try out FP's 18G-6SL2 turbo. There is a thread on here somewhere comparing it to a 16g I believe. Read through it and then see if you want more then the 18g.

Good luck :thumb:

sorry forgot to add in there i do have a large front mount with 2.5in hard piping welded up. How big of an injector can i go with a 190?

could i run say 16 psi on 550's with a green or is that just dumb, i just want there to be that option of always adding more mods and boost to the turbo ya know.

FP green is a 50 trim, NOT a 20g

I would go with the green over the 16g. You will get your power a little more linear with the 50 trim and it will spool a little later so your FWD car will have a little more chance at traction. If you get the 16g you will have a quick spooling turbo that will make good power, but roast your tires everywhere, The 50 trim will spool later, but more than make up for the loss in spool time with upper rpm and top end freeway power.

Good luck, upgrade your injectors! If you just bought em than return em unused and get something bigger.

No, it is a 20g. It uses the Tdo6h housing. This is from FP website:

..."and thus the Green bolts up just like a standard 20G turbo". Their 50 trim is the one that Luda is running.

The very first words of the paragraph from which you quote: "The Green turbo is a Mitsubishi/Garrett hybrid. . ." Just because it bolts on like a 20g means nada. My holset h1c bolts on like a 20g too. The fp green has the 50-trim compressor. Research this. It is common knowledge. And the td06h turbine.

98eclipsekidd08, a 14b (cheap in classifieds or ebay) with a 7cm^2 turbine housing (also cheap in classifieds or ebay) will push 550s to over 80% idc. And will push 18psi fine with your other mods. Much quicker spool and about 300whp is definately achievable. Great daily driver for cheap. 14b => $150 7cm^2; turbine housing (from any 16g) => $50 .

My personal choice between those two turbos would have to be the FP Green, though being as your not really sure your goals, my choice may be different then the one you should make. A rewired 190 pump is good for right around 400whp & won't limit your injector choice, per say. Like others have mentioned the 550 injectors will probably be your limiting factor. They may support the green at 18psi, there are alot of factors to consider (such as tune, fuel used, etc) but they will be getting close/at their limits. You can also max the 550's out with an evoIII when you start running 20+ psi on pump. Looks like your running a piggyback system, so you will be limited to 650-680 injectors. The evoIII is a fun street turbo & can make some nice power/quick times when pushed but personally in a fwd I like turbos with abit more lag/linear spool to help in the traction department.

I dont know if I should go with the evo 3 big 16g or the fp green turbo.
The FP Green is an excellent turbo. A close buddy of mine has one on his '95 TSi AWD currently running 21-22psi on a stock 7-bolt with BC0101 (272) cams. He's currently on FIC 650's (nearing the end of their usefulness) with a 255 pump, so if you plan on going with a Green you WILL need more fuel.

The Green reaches full boost around 4000rpms and is a ROCKETSHIP all the way to redline. Good for a FWD....it will allow plenty of time to get rolling before the boost comes on hard and you lose traction.

With your current fuel system setup, you should look at a Small 16G or the Big 16G/EvoIII 16G. Both come with a 7cm2 exhaust housing.

Keep in mind that a set of fp2/272 cams yield similar spool charateristics on a smaller turbo: linear powerband.

Stock cams can "max out" an evo3 16g. Why not simply push less on the accelerator, instead of loosing 3rd-5th gear lower rpm boost at the track (where you DO have traction and gears you spend more time in at the track)? If he's looking for 18 psi or so, I assume he's after 350ish hp. He hasn't mentioned a hp goal. Nevertheless, I didn't see that much peak airflow difference with my td05h 18g and my t3 stage3 60-1 at 18-20 psi. Other than the lag.
