Hi everyone…

As you all may know, I’m from Switzerland (Europe)
I’ve got a little question:

I’m going with a ported FP EVOIII Setup, 650cc, AFPR, …,…
Now my question is? Which tuning control sould I get?

S-AFC I or II or DSMLINK?

DSMLINK is maybe a little to expensive and will take to much time, since I will have to send the ECU from Europe to America and they have to get it ready and then send back.

Do you thing I sould be fine with an SAFC (1 or 2 ?) for about 300/320whp?

Or what else?

Thanks a lot

Sorry about my weak English…

Mike,

I'd recommend an EPROM ECU with custom maps for timing and air/fuel or DSM Link. AFC's are garbage and are not the best tuning devices. The EPROM ECU will save you a few bucks over DSM Link and you can always upgrade to Link later on when funds allow.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Tuning with an AFC is like screwing in the back seat of a small car, it can be done but it really doesn't work all that well.

You shouldn't have to send the eprom ecu to the US, any electronics repair place should be able to socket a damn eprom slot.

Now that's funny! Well said.

yes, you *should* be fine with either model of the SAFC, but most would not recommend this. you will be more satisfied with the other suggestions made instead.

took me a couple times to read it to get it:coy: i thought you meant actually screwing in *a* backseat in the back of a small car:D

.

probably one of the funniest things I've read here!

Hi,

thanks to the fast response.
So, I do not have to send the Eprom to the US?
Does anyone of you did this also on your own?

thanks

Mike,

You can have the board socketed and as far as the chip, I'm sure that Jeff from DSM Chips will ship overseas for you. He'll be on vacation until July 10th, but you can reach him at [email protected] for more information. As a matter of fact, you can buy the whole ECU with the chip installed and he should be able to ship it to you so that all you have to do is change the entire ECU.

Since you won't have a tuning device like an AFC, please let me know what kind of octane gas you'll be running so that I can look at your setup and make recommendations for the air/fuel and timing maps.

Let me know when you're ready,

Andy

I understand that the dsmchip is able to compensate for injector size increase and deadtime so that the car may idle at stock, but I don't see how it changes fuel maps.

Aren't the three possible combinations this:

1) Eprom ECU with DSMLink

2) Eprom ECU with DSMChip + AFC

3) AFC

The DSMchip will give you some nice features, but itself doesn't have any interface to tune with, is this correct? What can dsmchip do with air/fuel and timing maps?

Hi, thanks for the responses.
I've got just 2 little questions:

Can I buy a hole Eprom ECU from an other car and use it? Do I have to buy it also from a 95 GSX?

My tuner normally works with safc and has a well known name here in Switzerland that he knows what he is doing. Now I'm not shure, if I buy the DSMLINK, would I see a much better performance with it or just as good as with the safc.

Another question is, he will tune the car, after that, do I have to receck it sometimes again or what's tuned is tuned and good for the rest of live?

Thanks a lot

I have custom timing and A/F maps on mine and have no other tuning device than an AFPR. You have to ASK for these but Jeff can program them into the chip. The parameters are fixed, but they work like a champ.

Mike,

The only year for 2G's on the EPROM ECU was for the 95's. It's what I have and it works. The beauty of custom timing and A/F maps is that you don't need to have anyone else tune the car since the tune is already burned into the chip. DSM Link is obviously the most flexible option, but a chipped ECU with custom maps works very well. The only thing you monitor is knock and you work with boost and octane to find out where the tuning limit is. You can also work with fuel pressure as a tuning medium as well.

Using the AFC alone is a bad idea. The larger the injectors, the more the timing maps will be out of range as a result of airflow subtraction to compensate.

Let me know if that helps,

Andy

Hey now, be nice, I like mine. :p

If you do decide to go with DSMLink, make sure you go with injectors that are much larger than you ever plan to run. Something like 1000cc's would be great. DSMLink has the ability to run huge injectors just like the stock ones.

You would have to ask Andy about the keydiver chip and see if there is an injector limitation, but I would assume there isn't.

With huge injectors, you will be assured that you will never have to upgrade them again. If you go with the SAFC you pretty much max out at 650's, but I have seen some people "get by" with 720's.

Well said about AFC, I waisted my money on this set up and frustration on tuning:beatentodeath: . Went with Andy's set up sugestion and thru out the garbage. No more tuning needed.
