I'm having trouble deciding what would be better suited for my car. I have a 91 AWD AUTOMATIC that is basicly gutted. with a stock 6 bolt, 272's, tubular T3 mani and a Holset HY 35. The car has full 3in exhaust and is setup for speed density. The car will be used primarily for drag, 1/8th and 1/4.
Should I keep the stock 1g head with a JMF street smim? Or use a 2g head with a Evo 3 intake? I have both setups so its just a question of installing them.:hellyeah:
The car is also going to retain the stock converter with the blue wire mod.
Any input would be great.

oh, my profile isn't updated. Heres the rest of the cars mods.
welded center diff
large FMIC with 2.5 piping
950's
Rewired Supra pump

For drag you will do better with the 1g head and SMIM. The evo3 manifold's characteristics are a compromise between the bottom-end-emphasizing stock intake mani and the top-end-emphasizing sheet metal intakes. If you are focusing on drag, I would go with the sheet metal. No need for any low-end there.

Are any of the heads ported?

What rpm are you going to be taking the car too?

Nope. No port work. Whatever Delta 272's with new Evo beehives will handle. Max of 8 or 8.5 I think? I'll have to go back and look.

Very true. This car will be driven on the street also with the tight factory stall. I figured with the 2g and Evo 3 it would retain a lil more torque to get over the "hump" to get up on the converter.

The debate of 1g vs. 2g head has been going on for a while.

Just to drop this here, Curt Brown uses 2g heads, and I believe a bunch of the big name drag racers are making the switch.

:thumb: I know the search button well. Kiggley and Shep both do also.

Like talon dsmer And Brian said...This debate has been going on for while now..If your going to be going with high revs..The 1g head and SMIM would most likely benefit you the best..

The 2g head gives better low end muscle than the stock 1g head..On the high end the 1g head is most likely what you want..

People have been making the switch to a 2g head like Brian said..But if the 2g head gets ported then that kinda throws the 2g head design out the window..

Stock for stock, the 2g head is more likely better on a stock car for a little more velocity in the intake ports..On a modded car with high revs the larger ports of the 1g head will most likely be the most benefit..

I think I'll buck the trend and go with the 2g head and Evo3 Intake. Mitsu, Kiggley and Shep have to be on to something. On this site, discussions go back 6 to 7 years with no real data. I guess if it feels a lil "soft" up top a 2g SMIM is in the future. Thanks for the input guys.
