I can't figure out if this is a Fidanza, Slowboy Racing, or SSG (or some other brand) aluminum flywheel that was in my car. Anyone know how to tell the difference? Or are the the same and I could therefore order the replacement friction plate for a fidanza and have no probs putting it on this flywheel?

"Lancaster, Calif., February 21 - Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) is pleased to introduce new light weight, forged, Certified SFI Spec. 1.1, XACT StreetLite flywheels for 1989-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo models. Each CNC machined flywheel is made from high quality forged Chrome-moly and features an induction hardened integral ring gear for increased durability. StreetLite flywheels are heat treated for strength and precision balanced for smooth operation. Driver and spectator safety are top priority at ACT so each flywheel is tested and certified to meet SFI Spec 1.1 standards, which means that all XACT StreetLite flywheels are legal for competition when SFI Spec. 1.1 is required or recommended. XACT flywheels come complete with an official SFI sticker and a serial number as required for certification"

^XACT flywheels don't have a replacable friction surface. The SFI sticker means it complies to the Safety Foundation Inc. :

"Performance manufacturers participate in the Safety Foundation Inc. (SFI) certification program. SFI certification is required by most racing organizations and tracks for racing components for vehicles running 11.99 or faster before you are allowed to participate. SFI dictates the type material and mechanical properties minimums required to meet the specification and the manufacturer must submit product samples for testing in order to qualify for SFI product certification.

What SFI material specifications do not take into consideration, and many manufacturers do not know, is how the product is actually used and the abuse it must withstand under actual racing conditions. "

That looks identical to my cousins ssg flywheel.I have to count the bolt pattern to be 100%, but im almost exactly sure it is. Hes got a 93 i'll ask him though:thumb:

My bad. Yahoo search fails me again!ROFL

Edit: Why dont you weight it? Wouldnt that rule out one or more manufacturers because they're not all the same?

95 gsx - good idea. I'll weigh it when I get home.

Are the Fidanza and the SSG the same?

Weighed it on my scale - I think my ghetto scale is off. I personally think it weighs more than 4 lbs :D. If I find a better scale to use I will. Otherwise, does anyone know of perhaps a way of using the sfi spec serial number and finding out which company used that serial?

That's right, it has a 6 bolt swap. My understanding on those numbers is that they are a serial number and are different from item to item, not just company to company.

FYI to everyone - I just decided to call SFI. They were able to look up that number and tell me which company made my flywheel :thumb: . Its a Fidanza.:rocks:
