i would take the pioneer one...pioneer has always been good..my friend used to have a pioneer premier ...sounded pretty damn good imo....thats the one i would choose....unless you have an ipod and wanna intergrade it with your stereo then i think that alpine is the only one out of these 2 that does that...

hrm the pioneer seems to have overall better specs such as pre-amp and signal to noise, but the alpine has a nicer frequency range. Personally I would go with Alpine, cause they are just 1337. I don't know how much Pioneer does it, but I do know that some manufacturers "fluff" their numbers a bit. Two that I respect are Alpine and Kenwood for being good about "fluffing."

Again, though, Alpine gets my vote. The numbers are negligible and wouldn't be audibly apparent enough until really high volumes (for my ear). I would rather get the larger frequency response because IMO that is what helps make music sound more full.

I have a pioneer and have no complaints. If you have an ipod you can get an adapter for the pioneer that costs about $120 i think. I don't know too much about the alpine so my vote goes to the pioneer one.

I've got the 7700 in my eclipse, I love it, its very fast loading with MP3/WMA CD's and looks pretty snazzy at night.

*EDIT* After reading posts about fitment, the 7700 fits fine. It's mounted in the upper half of the double din setup we have with no problems.

Interesting they say it won't fit. They're full of crap. DIN is pretty much DIN.
Those two look interchangeable. I got this one for less than half that:

They say it doesn't fit, too. They're full of crap. WTF

there is only about 6.5" of clearance in the rear so some HU's won't really "fit" for most people.

More experienced installers will be able to make it fit, but for the n00b do-it-yourselfer, modifications to make it fit might be beyond their scope.

DIN only refers to the dimensions of the HU in length and width, not depth. One DIN could be 5" deep, while another could potentially be even 8 or 9" deep.

edit: also on a side note I had purchased a full set of speakers for my car that according to them were not supposed to fit; needless to say they fit perfectly, but only after some modification. I think they just try to make suggestions to people on the idea that their consumer base is made up of complete morons, so that their customer service has an easier time with the real morons.

Oh also, the 7700 is lacking a pause/att/mute button. It's on the remote or you have to go into your preferences menu, another menu, and then pause. That's the only thing I don't like about it.

My vote is for the alpine just because i have the cda-7897 myself, and most of my friends are running alpines they have always been good to me. As for the adpator for the I-pod i have that to hook up sound for my t.v's and it was only $17.

Ive run pioneer in my last 4 cars with 0 problems, right now im running the Premiere 860dp, Love it

yes that is 1 annoying thing, no mute button on the deck you have to go into the menu to hit mute, kind of annoying, but my remote has mute so i just use that

on an appearance level...i'd go with the pioneer...it has a way cleaner design...

and the italic display on the alpine is lame.

MOst defintly alpine, i have alpine in my car shit works amazing, i never liked pioneer, everyone one of my friends who owned it was cheap it always looked like it was about to break and just junky, plus the sound quailitly just was not there, if it were me alpine, if it were me alipne FLIP OUT DVD! http://www.crutchfield.com/S-7Fm5lLtJFGm/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=500IVAD901

The sound quality is dependent on the speakers. Pioneer is a great brand. Alpine is a good brand too but if you look into their older models, you'll see that they used to be better than they currently are. Like I said before though, I'm a Clarion person myself.

The only pioneers that i have seen that were poorly made were the old ones (~8-10 yrs ago) If they have a more recent deck and its falling apart its because they need to learn how to take care of their shit

Sound quality of the pioneers are amazing as well. If your friends sounded like crap its because they probably used stock wiring and stock speakers. you can buy an AIWA deck and get great sound if you put in fresh wiring and great speakers.

The only new(er) Pioneer head units I would keep away from would be the motorized faces. The 8400MP was poorly designed and caused many people alot of grief and they werent to friendly on a free $5 worth of parts recall fix on a $1000 HU. I'm not sure if they improved their next model up, but with the shit they can and do engineer, everything should be fine.

i've never had any problems with alpine before (easy install, great sound quality from preamp, overall great HU)

I personally like them alot so yea... go with alpine :thumb:
