I currently just looking into a manual boost controller for my talon and I'm rather puzzled on how vast the price range differs vs options etc. I wanted to here someone else’s options that may have used these products.

I like the idea of being able to flip a switch from the cockpit and change from gas preservation mode to aggressive playtime, however, I wouldn’t mind a constant 12 – 16 PSI of boost. Now my car is basically stock but its in storage I just bought it before the snow fell. I ordered a:
•Injen cold air intake for w/ aftermarket BOV (IS1891P) will be here on the 21st
•MSD 8.5mm spark plug wires
•NKG IridiumIX spark plugs (BPR6EIX)

Next couple purchases b4 driving it again.
•Greddy upper and lower piping kit and a Greddy S BOV
•Manual boost controller undecided
•Boost gauge model is undecided

Near future or next spring mods.
•Total exhaust revamp turbo back
•Cross drilled sloted disk brakes
•ACT 2600 Clutch
•Unorthodox pulley set

Now with that in mind…

I’ve been looking at such items as the Hallman Pro Series MBC and various Dejon models like the MBC-2a and MBC-2b. The Hallman is a simple but stylish and strong manual controller for under the hood adjustment only and it costs $104 give or take. The Dejons listed can have 2 set boost levels controlled from a flip of a switch in the cockpit and under the hood but don’t look as nice and cost about $130 or $90.

Anyway does anyone have anything to say on the accuracy, quality, or just experiences with these models or other MBCs you like?

A MBC is basically just a bleeder valve. Some of the more expensive ones have safety features that protect your motor if the bleeder spring breaks, or for something like that. If a cheaper one breaks, you'll just boost until something breaks. I haven't seen it happen, but I'm sure there is someone on this site who had it happen. I have a Turbo XS one and it works fine, spikes a few PSI or so, but its easy to use. Cost like $50

I used to have a turboxs and got tired of it spiking. Got a cheaper joe p and I'm much happier with it.

I am shopping for boost controllers for my 97 GSX, and i am wondering what you guys think the best bang for the buck unit is?

My Setup is a EvoIII 16g ported, evoIII manifold/02 ported, RRE full exhaust with a Greddy 24R intercooler and greddy type s BOV all on a fresh engine. I am using a complete GM MAFT setup.

i want a unit that is easily adjustable, nice looking display, reasonably priced, and accurate!!!

Let me know what you guys think, and pictures of youre units if you have really clean installs of your boost controller.

If your talkin about the an Electronic one I would go Greddy Profec-B spec 2.. They look awesome and i have seen them go for about 280 shipped on ebay. Which is pretty good compared to the other electronic boost controllers. But from some people they say this unit is hard to use but I had no problems on this at all.

For manual boost controllers id go with a Turbo XS most vendors sell this controller there are a couple differnt versions.

i bought one on ebay for 10 $ something like a year ago,
and it works just perfect (a ball and spring type, that s what u want)
luck ? i dont think so
companies like turbosmart etc sellin u the same bs for 80 $ Overpriced? #### YEA !!!
just my .2 cents

btw before i get murdered by everybody cause it s on ebay,
i just made sure that it wasn t the first one the guy was makin and that he knew what was he talkin about....

Wjat about electronic boost controllers. I think i would rather have one that is electric!

I am debating between the greddy profec B, Apexi AVC_R, and turbo XS units

I have heard good things about that turbo xs kit, but i really like the ability to make in car adjustments to boost settings.

For the same reasons, the build your own kit dosen't really appeal to me. Also, with all the other problems i have been dealing with on building this car, i really just want a nice simple effective controller

I am really trying to decide between the greddy profec B, Apexi AVC_R, and turbo XS (The one that looks like a guage)

I can understand everybody wants to save a buck but unless it's a heat sheild i wont make it myself.

I find that sometimes making things you'rself while being cheap can really be time consuming and a bloody headache unless you trully know what you'r doing.

I have the turbo xs dual stage boost controler ,wich has worked great for me and never has givin me a problem what so ever.

All in all I think it's a great company to buy from because if they can make a great b.o.v that holds psi, so why not let them build you a controler that's meant for extream psi ?

Ya know, i have to agree with the fact that making your own stuff is a great learning tool and it does help you to understand more about your car. However, when you work atleast 70hrs a week, have a wife and kid, some people's time is more inportant than saving money.

The one that looks like a gauge is a boost controller and boost gauge in one and it's made by Turbosmart, not Turbo XS.

I'm switching to either the Porfec B or the new Profec Type-S.......

I have a Turbo XS dual stage and I love it. Flip of a switch and it goes from wild to insane. I'm gonna be buying a Turbosmart setup here in a few weeks though. A couple friends of mine have the Turbosmart and it is a badass setup.

I've had both a Joe P and DejonTool manual boost controllers. I am much happier with the DejonTool controller, it has a small 2psi spike, but is much more stable than the Joe P was. If your worried about the spike, though it is only 2psi and only last a split second, they send a second fitting to eliminate it.

i had a joe p with my big 16g. i think i got one of the first ones made, it looked like a small water pipe spigot. when i installed the evo torbo, i got hella creep. the profec b2 eliminated it, rock steady boost. HOWEVER, i mounted the profec in the ashtray(galant vr4) and you cant see what the numbers are unless you are looking directly at it, otherwise, it looks like a row of 8's. then, to calibrate it, it is in some crazy system, one is metric, the other is some whacked out japanese haiku or something. to set it at 18 lbs boost, i think the setting i got on it is like 58 or something. also, the evo turbo hits full boost so fast, the warning bell goes off all the time, and it starts flashing red. scares the crap out of the passenger, or your wife, as in my case. it also seems to let boost build a lot faster.

The reason why it's flashing red and beepin' at ya is because it's boost spiking. I had the exact same problem on my 1G. You pretty much can't tune it out. I even called Greddy multiple times and they said they had similar reports from others and thats why they released the type S without the fuzzy logic bullshit. The Profec Spec II is trash. I'm a big fan of don't knock it till you try it and I tried it and well.....Trash. :thumbdown
