Quick question does anyone know where I can tap into my electrical system for a switched source for my glowshift gauges? I tried a few different ones and I keep blowing and melting fuses. I am using a relay I just need some sort of switched power source that has enough to keep me from blowing fuses.

Cig lighter is a good one. There are two positives, you'll need to check which one is a switched 12v.

+1 for cigarette lighter, itll work.:hellyeah:

Just for s n g's Where were you trying to hook them up at when they started blowing fuses? I might get some as well and, well. Good luck man!:hellyeah:

Well first time I just hooked them up to some random fuse under the dash LOL they didnt blow that fuse though it kept popping the tail light and dash light fuse so I then wired a relay in and it did fine for a day or so then blew the same fuse again

Sorry to change the subject but i just got a 98 GSX with 1 gauge in it. A AEM Tru Boost and the dummy that had it hooked the power to it up to the headlights so i would have to turn on my side markers the 1st couple days i had it to use it LOL.

Are you making a statement or asking a question?

I've always had good luck with the switched power wire for the radio. That may or may not be a good idea for everybody else though.

In the past I have too on other vehicles but I have a total of 5 gauges running through the 3 main power wires so I was afraid of blowing the fuse. Im gonna try the cig lighter as soon as I get some time because im sure it will do fine.

Are you asking for some assistance? Or just throwin it out there?:D

If you just want a constant 12V source, tap into one of the open spots in the fuse box under the dash with a spade. If you want to be really safe, wire a fuse in line with the wire.

Na I need a switched. I have a relay and all wired in I just need some switched source to use and I thought the same thing trouble is I have no openings under the dash. Every spot already has a fuse in it.

i actually thought about making an accesory distribution block by running an 8awg wire from the battery into the car and making some sort of dist block of all the accesories in the car

Ahh yes i forgot about those 3 dollar inline fuses, That will work awesome. I did a no no and had a few l.e.d.s tapped into my ecu power,it was when i was hooking up a cheap dancing gauge :) you know, the a/f that does nothing. Anyway,i wouldnt suggest it but i wanted all the UV l.e.ds to stay on for that extra few seconds. Let us know when you figure it out man.

And greyspyder, did you re-do the wiring?

If you want a switched source of power, so you get power when you turn the headlights on, you can wire into the fuse box in the engine bay. The spot for the fog lights will work for this. You'll need to check with a voltmeter with the headlights on and off to see which spot on it will give you 12V with them on and 0V with them off.

How does your fuse box under the dash not have any open spots?

I really have no idea. All of them are taken and the cover is missing so I dont know which ones do anything. As for a switched source it has to be something that comes on all the time not just when I hit my headlights because the glowshift gauges require constant and switched power to come on at all, they are illuminated all the time.

It would be a good idea if you had the time, that way you could stay out of all the factory wiring if you wanted to and add as many gauges as you wanted to.:thumb:

for a ign switch i used the power antenna wire from my cd player the first time, 2nd time i used the cig lighter. Each time i ran the switch wire to a relay to turn them on. For light switch i just used the wire comin from the 4 way switch in the center vent area then to a relay
