ok boys and girls, i need your help and advice in making a decision. i am tired of just dealing with boost creep. now i want to ACTUALLY deal with it. i have a friend who has a evo3 manifold flanged for an external wastegate. now i can do that and save a few bucks or i can buy the whole o2 housing and wastegate from punishment racing, (which looks incredibly sexy). my question is does the o2 housing have any advantages or is it just a different place to mount the wastegate? should i just settle for a gated manifold? i will spend the money on the o2 housing set up if it makes that big a deal but if its just for the look than i will hold off and get a manifold. thanks in advance.

Running off the manifold has the advantage of easy gate removal opposed to having to remove mani, turbo, and o2 housing to get to it. I have the punishment housing and Tial gate, had to bash my fan to fit it in and it almost touches the alternator but it fit. I also had ALOT of issues with my gate springs collapsing on me and apparently am one of the only people who has had it happen 3 times in under 1500 miles LOL so having the gate on the mani would have been a huge help in getting at the gate. But hey, now I can pull my mani and turbo and have it back on again in about a half hr LOL

yeah i remember reading your thread a while back. my issue is im having a huge problem with boost creep. i ported my hotside, i installed a cat, u name it i tried it. the only thing left to do is install a external gate. now i read that the o2 housing mount give you better spool response but you sacrifice ease of installation (also read that it may not necessarily help boost creep if you dont port the flapper hole enough). the mani mounted one is a cake walk to install but its obnoxious sounding. im not exactly sure which one would stand a better chance at eliminating my boost creep issue, but if i could get some performance boost out of it too than that would make it that much more worth it rather than spending all this money JUST to cure my cars obnoxious ability to build more boost than it can handle.... (i may have to make an insurance claim for whiplash from fuel cut)....

Add a little muffler to the manifold mounted one. Easy to install, and quiet. It seems like I have to take everything off my car way too often to get something that I would be cursing taking off.

Although, I can't imagine a V band wastegate setup being hard to take out or put in anywhere it is located. V bands are where it is at.

you obviously do not own a MAP or PR tail MVS wastegate recirculated o2 housing. Personally I use the MAP version since I had a wastegate already, are a bi*** and a half to get off and on.

OP, I run it off the o2 housing and dont have a problem getting it on and off. The o2 housings designed for wastegates, made by reputable vendors, have bolt positions that are easy to get to. Then again you can always put in a low PSI spring and use a MBC or EBC to control the boost.

Generally the vband versions require heating up the flanges with MAP gas and the gate will pop off. No amount of beating with a rubber or plastic mallet would get mine off the housing, in the end MAP gas was the winner.
