I highly doubt the teacher's at school's like UTI and Wyotech aren't wrong when they say running no thermostat will overheat your car. It even says it word for word in my text book. It might not do it under all circumstances but when you get coolant flowing that fast without any restriction it's not going to be able to disapate heat as well therefore never cooling it down enough. It's not false information. You just aren't very smart for doing it and sooner or later it will bite you in the ass.
If the water is in physical contact with the radiator, it will conduct heat to the rad core. There is no arguing this. Since the water is moving so fast, it won't cool as much because it actualy spends less time in the radiator, however, since it is moving so fast, the little that it does cool will circulate fast enough to get the same cooling effect.
Its like:
Are you going to get wetter if you walk in the rain, or run in the rain? Same distance.. just speed is the only varaible.... i tried it many times. YOu get pretty we either way.

you get wetter when you run.

ANd only old flat head fords had that problem. the water pump relied onthe tstat to restrict flow, not the same with modern engines.

SO if they are telling you that they are wrong... but it does help with creating a pressure differential to ensure water flows as designed.

watch mythbusters.

there is a logical explanation ifyou think about it long enough.
LOL. I was just watching the shark week episode of mythbusters. Awesome show!!
Well, i haven't seen that episode yet, but could you explain it to me perhaps?
Now when we talk about run and walk, i assume we are using real speeds of people and not like a turtle walk and a formula 1 run. What did those crazy dudes find out?

basically when walking you present a smaller target for raindrops
when running you catch them not only on the top but you also run INTO them on your front.

i would think that the less exposure time to the rain would offset that...
