where to buy 2g awd trans

Ok first off this is not a classified. I'll be putting up one of those next. What I need to know is where all I should check for rebuilt/new transmissions. I have plenty of places to check for used ones. Its for my 95 TSi AWD. Can I use a 95-99 trans or do I need 95-96? I know the tcase changed but is the trans gearing the same? If I get a 97-99 trans will it work as long as I get a matching tcase?

Is TRE still around? I tried emailing and calling them about some parts awhile back and didn't get a reply.

And the real kicker is that my trans is locked up. What is required to qualify as a core? the case looks okay but the shafts and gears are all stripped and trashed.

Any other ideas?

Pretty sure TRE is still around, talked to him a couple of months ago about rebuilding my '95. I am also curious about tranny options for a 95 AWD car.
