When should I worry about new fuel pumps?

I'm relatively poor, and therefore on a limited budget, but there are several things I plan on doing to my talon pretty soon. I'm probably going to buy a 1G compressor by-pass valve(which I will eventually crush). I'm also getting a 2.5" turbo back exhaust and a nice, big front mount intercooler. My question is... Can I do all these things and amp up my boost a little (I've got a manual boost controller) without worrying about running rich and needing better fuel pumps? Oh, and I like my little T-25 for now so please don't tell me to get a new turbo.

I would recomend doing maintence first. I would also tell you when you do buy performance parts I would upgrade fuel pump right at first. You can get one for like $100. Then you know you have fuel to run what you want.

If youre poor, youre not gonna want to pour money into performance parts and then bust a timing belt due to poor maintenance. The best thing to do and DSMtuners even recommends Stage 0 is to get the engine in top shape.

Plus it feels great to have a smooth running engine. (well as smooth as a 4g can be ;) )

haha, yeah, I do plan on making sure my engine is in good shape before any of these aforementioned parts go in, but after reading your guys's responses, I guess it makes good sense to go for the fuel pump right away if they're only $100. If I am going to buy the pumps first, what size and brand would you guys reccomend? I'm probably not doing much more to the car then what I talked about earlier for at least a year or so, so I don't want some crazy-awesome fuel pump I'm not going to use to it's potential.

A 190lph is fine for now and can actually take you quite far if you rewire it in the future. A 255lph would cause some issues with fuel pressure as your stock FPR would not be able to cope with the extra pressure.

Yeah, I was just looking at the 255 and it had a warning about excessively rich idle on a mostly stock car. If I did get the 190, how far could I take it before I started to run lean?

If you want a cheap alternative to a walbro pump, do what I did and get a 3000GT Twin Turbo fuel pump. It flows about 180lph-185lph which is comparable to the Walbro 190. Not to mention I got my 3000GT TT pump off 3si.org for $20 shipped and its a denso pump so it will run quieter then a walbro pump will.

Awesome, thanks guys. I think I'll go with the 190 to avoid rich mixture complications for the time being. I can always get a 255 later.

Fuel requirements are directly related to airflow, so you really need to know how much air you are flowing before you can make that determination.

I would suggest that you pick up a logger as your next investment. Then take a look here and you can see how much air, each fuel delivery component can support. The best thing you can do is rewire that pump. It will cost you about $25 and will create a significant difference in the pump performance.
