When I bought my car i saw the previous owner tried to do a bondo job on a small spot on the right wheel well. yesterday my friend leaned on it now there is a crack/hole there that i can directly reach from both sides....


what would be the best way to fix this? would chopping and welding a new piece of metal be enough? has anyone else gone through anything like this????

please please please tell me the best methods of going about with this.... i saw this paint on horsepower tv which turns rust into strong metal again.... i dont know what it was called but it was like 80 a gallon or something... does anyone know what i'm talking about?

If your asking this question you obviously dont do alot of body work do you? (That is not meant to be a flame I'm just asking) So I don't think i would do the work myself. If you have a buddy who is good with body work then have him (or her) come over and give you a hand one day. If you're intent on fixing it its going to have tobe sanded down until all the rust is removed completely (and I mean completely because it will come back if its not completely gone) then it'll come down to some proper bondo work and a small piece of metal to fill the hole.
 
My buddy on here had a 96 GS eclipse sit in his yard for over a year in northeast Ohio, now the car is on 4 jack stands , and everything removed almost underneath the car , and in doing this and finding the the bad rust areas, Chrysler (or Mitsubishi)sells sections underneath the car separately (pieces are cheap)that have to welded in again, so i would see if you could get a new piece, cut the old piece out, sand the area down, definitely use Por 15 after you weld the new piece in....now my buddy is a former body man himself so i would also recommend having a body person help you and someone who can weld...that would , i think, be the long term fix to your problem... it sounds like alot of work but i guess it depends on what your planning long term with the car... :dsm: :talon: :laser:

no no no i would never do it myself, i have no welding/ body work experience whatsoever.
I have a friend whos been doing it for a year or two now and seems to be pretty good... but not sure if i completly trust him with it.

about how much would something like this cost to have done elsewhere?
 
The correct way to repair a rust spot is to completly cut it out, or it will start to rust again. Get a MIG welder and build up a bead till the hole is completly filled in with welding bead. Then sand the bead flat and smooth with the rest of the body panel. Primer and paint the thing. Using bondo will just crack next time someone who dosen't know its there leans on it again. But if you have never done this before leave it to a pro, or it will come out looking worse than the rust hole did initally.
