post up the cheapest rebuild youve ever heard of or done? and how long?

im actually getting my motor rebuild right now..it will be done by thursday..
its getting my block checked , resurface, honed, and my head is getting checked and honed,(basically the whole valve job). im also getting Forged JE pistons 8:1:5, eagle rods, bearings, cometic gaskets, and tunned ...all this added up to 2600:dsm:

lowest i was "Qouted" was 1500 for everything, but thats just a qoute, but i hear its very close to the final number when it all goes right.

I this rebuild for my friend 1100 without labor included. If I did it again I believe I could have made the rebuild cost 800 or 900 dollars because the machine shop turned my car in between bearing sizes so I have to get another crank that I have balanced and polished. About 300 to 400 dollars wasted.

I'm in the process of rebuilding mine right now, and I'm getting it done very cheaply. It's mostly running stock parts, but the total cost is about $500, which was a rebuild kit, poly engine mounts, a mitsubishi metal head gasket, and some other odds and ends. I'll be paying a bit more when labor costs are done, but a friend is doing this for me, so I'm staying pretty cheap on this.

eBay Motors: 89-92 2.0 Eagle Talon & Plymouth Laser 4G63 Engine Kit (item 280183889859 end time Apr-11-08 13:24:41 PDT)
And here's the rebuild kit I bought if anyone is doing this themselves and is trying to keep it cheap.

with machine work, stock headgasket, seals and such, ARP headstuds, my rebuild costed me about $600. I did my own work though. It took me about 3 months between school and ripping apart my old GSX for parts I needed and the machine work and then rebuilding it.

Less than 400 for the motor. Car only had 80k on it it was totaled so i went ahead and rebuild it using the stock parts after spending 2 weeks checking everything over. Just got a basic overhaul kit and a new oil pump, and timing belts.

I could have gotten this about 30% off if i was working at a auto parts store, not o mention if i was working there i could get access to all the tools i need.

Motor got sold. Last i heard it ran till the kid side swaped a tree at 80 ish on the back road, broke the block open on a rock in some field.

Funnest motor build so far would have been the time we took a complete honda b18b1 motor (95 integra) and washed every part in the dish washer, and put it back together, and it ran till we boosted it spiking at 16 psi on stock parts, and all the rods went through the block.

huh. im planning doing a rebuild myself on a 6 bolt i blew up about 2 months ago and i was just wondering how much it would be.
