I was curious aboutthis.

With cams/turbo etc.

what has the largest power band with least amount of lag and before boost falls off?

i have aLLLOOOOT more reading to do about finding a strong low end turbo without lag but i figured this might give some insight into other things as well.

lets hear some input.

My big 16g was great. With cams, fmic, 2g manni it would spool fully(20psi) by 35-3600 rpm's. Would also pull to about 7200 before boost started dropping off. This was with 2.5" pressbent dp and 3" cat and cat back. Now my new setup spools fully to 22psi by 4900-5200 rpm but pulls all the way to 8k+. Off boost drivability is great with either but I dont mind the lag for the power I have now.

that was an AWEsome Post.

yea, 4900 is waaaay to high for me.

What did you change out?
werent happy with the 16g?
To be honest im a dousche when it comes to turbos so ive been reading up and so far the big 16G is what seems to be leading for least amount of lag with good capability for power

my current set up i start spoolin around 2900 and fully spool by 3400 and it holds to 7400 with not too much of a drop in boost. super 20g, 272 i/e cams, fmic, cyclone intake, 2g mani..... its a great street set-up in my opinion.

for the most torque(low end) and with minimal spool time get a t28 killer with 264intake/264exhaust. that will get you MUCH better top end then stock, about the same spool as stock, with gobs of low end torque. The big16g and t28 killer will hold a good bit of boost to redline, my b16g holds full boost past 7k but oh well. But if you want a flat powerband, low end like no other turbo can create, minimal spool and holding boost til redline then a t28killer, big16g, or evo3 16g are your best choices. the t28killer will have to best low end and will spool slightly faster but the 16gs will have better top end.

I went to a full garrett setup with tubular manifold and external wg. I liked the b16g but it wont support the power I am looking for.

Especially at elevation, people are finding 16g's to drop off on stock cams. You are giving up some low end with cams, but the high end depends on your setup and boost. The EVO 16g won't hold 25psi in colorado, but you won't see the limits if you run 20psi. Add how much power you want to make to the mix. With all things considered I'd not worry about low end, and get a 50 trim and cams. Top end is all there way past stock fuel cutoff, and spool is what, 500rpm more than a 16g? 1 word: downshift.

I reach full boost by 3000rpm or sooner, I have reached 18psi by that before and I doubt a "50trim" will reach full spool by 3500. I also hold all my boost well past 7k but granted Im not in colorado. If you look at the cam test all the other cams loose low end except stock and 264/264 combo. the 264/264 combo has better low end and Much better top end over stock, yet stock cams are no sluch when compared to top end performance grinds IMHO. to tell the truth on any street turbo 272s arent worth the slower spool and loss in torque, for 1hp difference....

Read the run again.....the turbo was unable to keep up with the engine at the higher rpms. Don't believe every little graph you see on the internet ;) .

Seriously if you are only looking at a 16g don't bother with the cams. It won't be worth your money IMHO.

Powerband? Mods are only half of it...then factor in AFR, timing, and boost among other things.

With a 16g you will not need cams. I'm waiting for my AGP turbo kit to arrive while running my 16g with 272's on a built motor and it runs out of breat around 5-6000rpm...and it goes to 8500rpm so they are really not doing much goo for me right now although it pulls like a mofo up high.
