whats the best year gsx (1g)

hey guys whats the best 1g gsx? and whats all this i hear about 6bolg/4bolt combos? could someone explain?

Wasent it the 1992? Early 92 maybe.I think they are all good cars, i have a 90 gsx with the 6/3 and i dropped the clutch at 6grand and didnt break the rear so obviously it isnt too weak(the car was on its way out) The 6bolt/4bolt combo... It's a 6 bolt engine and a 4 bolt rear. The 4 bolt rear is the 'stronger' one. It is more beefier I believe,from a pic of the both next to each other on the ground. Maybe that helped you out alittle bit.

Yes the 92 cars are the ones to have. Any car up to early 92 has a 6 bolt motor (the good one) and a three bolt rear end ( the weaker of the two). From late 92 on they had a 7 bolt motor ( the bad one) and a 4 bolt rear ( stronger of the two) In the year of 92 they had some cars that had both the good motor and rear end, hence the 6/4 combo. It seems that any car built before May of 92 has this combo, although there are some that say they have seen that 6/4 in cars after that date. If you go to www.vfaq.com there is a way to see if a car has a seven bolt ( by looking at the oilpan) and if it has a 4 bolt rear ( get under and count 1, 2, 3, 4).

My friend and I both get lucky and own 6/4 TSI and GSX.

edit: to find the build date there is a tag on the driver side door sill. It will tell you what month and year you car was born.

The 95's have the best pistons and an ecu.
The 92's have the rods and the 4bolt rear and a 6bolt.


Thats basically the only two I can think of that are actually "saught after" more than others?

Right.
But you would have to get under the rearend of the car to see which rearend is in it.
3 or 4bolt

awesome, about how much you think a 3 to 4 bolt swap would cost from a junk yard $300-$500? and can any 1g rear go into any other 1g?
