What's missing to get the car running right? Says it needs to be tuned. I'm unsure of the fuel system / tuning device. Is that all?

Looks like it just needs fuel mods, unless they're already done to the car. It would need a fuel pump, injectors, and something to control the injectors. And a boost controller, but I would assume it to be there with everything else listed.

Yep what he said.

And just to add a few more that you missed. Are you running the 38 mm off a o2 housing? If so you will need a o2 housing. Also you dont have a head gasket on there, i say go with a MLS HG from Mitsu. Throw Out Bearing from Mitsu for your new clutch. New crush washers for your oil feed/water feed and drain lines. Just a few i noticed off the bat :p

Was told the car has 550cc injectors and a 255lph fuel pump. To control this, would an AFPR be doable until an AFC is fundable? I'm looking for a new car and this would be a big change from my stock talon, which I'm not modding because it's FWD. AFC easy to use?

Yes a AFPR would control the fuel just fine, and you should get one before you get the AFC, but get and AFC as soon as possible.

The car probably already has some sort of fuel control or the seller is wrong about the 550's. You can't just drop 550's into a car without the right support. You'd need an EPROM or an S-AFC or it would run super rich all the time.

If you running the 38mm wastegate off the manifold, which o2 housing you plan on using? www.nsfabrication.com has good o2 housing. If you are running the 38mm wastegate of the o2 housing, which manifold are you getting? Slowboy racing has a good one with a flange for a 38mm wastegate. Check out www.slowboyracing.com

One thing I don't get. If the car has a 6bolt and external wastegate WHY go with a Small 16G turbo? Is this going to be a road course car or something? Do you want quick spool?

Items missing:
1) Boost Controller
2) Fuel Pump
3) Injectors
4) Fuel Computer - SAFC/DSMLink or something
5) Logger (don't need one if you plan to get DSMLink)

If you don't have a fuel pump or an AFPR, getting a 190 fuel pump might save you the extra money on an AFPR. The 5spd 1G turbo runs 37psi fuel pressure and the 2g turbo runs 43 psi. Note that the 1G auto and 2G both run 43psi (Don't know what you have auto or 5spd)

With an SAFC, without a logger, I don't see how you can do any tuning or know what is going on inside your engine.

Last but not least, don't forget the usual stuff. Compression check, belts, fluids, boost leak test etc.

Uhh... your dude is taking a break....

"It had to happen at some point in time.

Selling to those who think they know everything is a pain.
Building parts for little profit does not work too well.
I would like to concentrate on school now, and work on paying the debt I owe to a friend.

I'll be back soon, and better than ever.

Those who are currently waiting for parts from me, you will have them soon.
I can still work on ECUs and smaller projects. Shoot me an e-mail [email protected]

Also don't forget to replace the fuel filter when installing a new turbo. One more thing is the 16g's have internal wastegates, so you'll have to weld that shut for the external wastegate. Look at other threads on this site if doing this. If you have a somewhat built engine, and want an external wastegate, why not go for a 50trim or even better, an FP3052.

Ah, well there is www.122performance.com for the o2 housings.

I guess a couple people missed the original thread, I'm not building this motor it's already in someone else's car that is for sale. I'm not going to buy though, a little too complicated for me. Thanks for the responses.

Oh, wish you'd clarified that to start with.

All the car really needs to "tune" it is a fuel system. If it has 550 injectors and needs a control then buy an EPROM or S-AFC. Even with an EPROM it is recommended that you eventually buy an s-afc but you can get away without one for a while.

Other than that, if it has a bigger fuel pump you'll want a Fuel Pressure Regulator and you'll want to run heavier wire to the pump (which may already be done.)

None of this is terribly complicated or outrageously expensive. You could do all of this for less than $400 easily if you skip the s-afc. Good luck whatever you do. :thumb:

Is the EPROM pretty much like a chip that is burnt for specific modifications? It also says the ecu has to be made to have a socket, how does one do that?

http://www.dsmchips.com

Follow all the links on that page. It'll tell you everything you need to know. He suggests that you have a s-afc to run the injectors but numerous tuners on this site are running the chip and injectors without one. You just can't fine tune your fuel curves, which you can't do without a wideband 02 anyway. The s-afc & W-O2 will run you $500+ real quick.

Thanks alot. I've got some research to do. Car is cheap but the body needs a little work. I'm not sure if I can get away with this question, but what is a ballpark hp figure for a car like this with a mild daily driver tune?

Don't make the mistake of just building the motor up. You dont want to make a lot of hp and forget everything else. Cooling systems, breaks, suspension, tire, ect. Having a motor that can put down 500awhp is nothing without the other areas of car that controll where the car goes.

Thanks guys. Here's a big question:

How do I test drive this car? Obviously it isn't going to run great with no fuel management. What should I be looking for?

You can still test the clutch by putting your foot on the brake while the engine is running and slowly letting the throttle out untill/if it kills the engine. It'll let you know how good the clutch is.

Otherwise, take it to a mechanic you KNOW you can trust and have him give it a full check-up. Just a test drive won't tell you anywhere near enough.

Well, after all of this, I talked to the shop this person claimed to have built the motor and they didn't recall the work so I am going to shy away from this (also has no receipts). I appreciate eveyone's help, and learned alot anyway.
