This summer I am looking into buying a 1G Eagle Talon TSI AWD..they have a couple up for sale now for about 1,300 which is totally cool because I have no problem working on cars anyways..I work on my 420a all the time and I am not too fimiliar with the 4G63 though...I'd like to learn more about it..but anyways if I were to buy this car..what mods would I need to start killing a WRX STi? is it possiable to beat them with a 1g Turbo DSM? I would like to smash this STi in the ground because this guy downtown talks alot of crap about DSMs and how they are so slow and they can never be as fast as his STi and he would bet anybody who has a DSM to race against his STi..so I am totally up for it this summer but I want to build up a 4G63..so what would I need so I could just smoke him? I know my 420a probably won't be up for the challenge because I'll be in the middle of swapping out my 2.0L with a 2.2L engine this summer and turboing it..and I'd like to fix up a 1G Turbo DSM or could I smoke him if I got my 420a built up and turboed with a super 20G turbo?..any suggestions are well appreciated..thankz and please don't bash...

Ive been reading all about HP numbers from the STi to the DSMs etc. Did everybody forget about TORQUE??? Also, for such crazy smart engineers, whose brilliant idea was it to put an intercooler at the top of the engine when heat rises?? I dunno, just seems elementary to me.

The STi's have a water sprayer which helps. There is probably some sort of reason that the intercooler is on top whether it be money or some sort of design inherant in the boxer style engine. Sti's only come with 15 psi boost from the factory so maybe intercooler efficiency isn't as big a deal compared to the EVO VIII which comes set at 19 psi. I also notice that highly modified COBB WRX's maintain the factory intercooler location with just a larger intercooler. Does anyone know a Subaru boy to ask?

The top mount intercooler is from rally racing where you don't want a front mount getting hit by low objects or flying debri. Turbo II RX7s also have the top mount which baffles me. It may also be cheap than either a side or front mount design.

There's a guy locally that talks trash about DSM's. He own's a 350Z and talks about how DSM's are slow, etc... It just got me more interested in tuning my DSM.
I'm pretty sure his 350Z is stock.

I dont see why your suprised that someone is talking shit on DSMs. Theres a million slow and riced out people running around with them. Its very rare for someone to run into the real deal.

I've had guys say OMG i didnt know eclipses could do that...etc etc.

Reason Im responding is because a buddy of mine has a decked out STi.

I have around 330 at the wheels, he has full bolt ons, intake exhaust up pipe, etc etc and I pull on him topend.

I hope your not just building up your car to be able to beat STis, a modded car is way far less reliable along with many other things. If your building a car just to beat someone, rather than having a true motivation, like you love drag racing...then you probably shouldnt do it. Because the one situation is impulse and the second is called a hobby. Anything with illegitmate grounding is probably good to avoid before your too deep in it. The people that still think street racing is cool are the ones that havent had any of there friends die doing it.

3 easy steps to kill an STi:

step one
buy bag of sugar for 2 dollars at supermarket

step two
put sugar in STi gas tank

step three
run away

also you can substitute sugar for flamming rag, when using that method run faster

well I haven't had any friends that have died..the only ppl that I know of that die are the ones that are not so smart..or a fluke thing happened but the ones that I heard of crashing into oncomming traffic are just plain stupid..I live way out here where this is no traffic in certain areas that we go to..it may take 5mins to go there from downtown but hey its a good deal and we always buckle up and take it safe...unlike when ppl watch from the sides of the road when somebody blows out a tire and kills an onlooker...but not really heard of out here I would guess it would happen downtown if somebody was racing..but street racing is alright but I would more than like to race on a strip..thats why we are trying to get one out here unstead of traveling 3 1/2 hours to one..but back on the topic..I don't think I will stuff a rag and set it on fire to an STi ahha funny tho...but this guy is a majore dick..right now I am working on buying my 95 or 96 GSX and modding that up..and I am selling my RS to some kid that watches fast and furious too much..hhaha but anyways thankz for the comments...~Dustin

Lol there's DSM tuning ethics now. :thumb:

get a first gen they hookup better and dont look as fast. this will save u money and make the guy feel even worse. he would feel real bad losing to a 1990 laser compaired to a fast looking 99 gsx. And just to make fun of him get a blue one (or spraypaint) and put a big aluminum wing on it (also paint that blue). Then buy STI badges off ebay (3 bucks) and paint your rims gold. Then tell him your car looks as dumb as his and then smoke his a$$.

PS I love rally cars and watch WRC religiously but STis and EVOs look like crap. Its hard not to make fun
