hey guys I have a 95' Eclipse GS-T (Front Wheel Drive) Car is also automatic if that makes any difference

I am about to change break pads in the rear..

I was wondering, what tool do I need to use to take off the calipers that are hooked onto the brake pads??


Also, What are all the tools that I need to sucessfully do this job?

Get a Haynes service manual, it'll tell you everything you need to know, including torque specs.
Edit**There aren't any special tools needed, unless you think a couple of sockets and closed end wrenches are special.**

Haven't changed my pads in a while, but if I remember right, you just need a socket to take the bottom bolt off, & loosen the top bolt, then just swing the caliper up (so it uses the top bolt as a hinge)..and the pads will be exposed so you can just pull them off with your bare hands. Putting the new pads on though, you'll need something like a C-clamp to push the caliper pistons so they're level with the caliper body, so you can swing them over the new pads. No special tools are needed. Make sure the E-brake is not engaged.

thanks I appreciate it but im not sure what kind of clamp I will need to buy which is the only thing thats stopping me right now from changing the back break pads

C-Clamp. Put a thin piece of wood or cardboard over the piston first though, to prevent marring on the piston's surface.

You can't use a clamp on the rear calipers. You'll need a piston compression tool that you put your ratchet to 'screw' the piston back into the caliper.

Hey I just changed to rear rotors and pads about a month ago and I didn't use any special tool or anything. I don't know if it's different for a turbo but thats how it was on my n/a.

Ah alrighty then. Listen to this guy I didn't know the rear pads on a 2G GST are the screw-in type.

Edit: Are you sure about this? I thought only 1G's had the screw-in pistons.

I don't remember the sizes, but a standard socket set and a few wrenches from Sears/whoever will get the job done.

1. Remove the wheel...duh.
2. Behind the caliper, at each end respectively, there is a bolt (guide pin, items 1 and 2). Loosen the top one (item 1), and remove the bottom one (item 2).
3. The caliper should then swing up and you can remove the pads. They kind of tilt, then come out.
4. Use a large C-clamp or a big pair of channel locks to compress the piston, then reinstall the opposite of taking them off.

That's on the 1G, the 2G doesn't have the "screw-in" feature.
