What to use to clean turbo?

Just got a 14b from a guy i know, its pretty nasty looking, so i just wanna clean it up a bit. what should i use? and shoudl i ensure all the holes are plugged real god or does it matter? it wont see the car for 1-2 weeks, so time to dry isnt an issue.

Obviously, water probably isn't the best idea, but carb cleaner may work, and mineral spirits would work pretty well - although I don't recommend you get it into any small crevices leading to the bearings or oil.

Seperate the housings from the CHRA. Use simple green on the compressor housing with a toothbrush. I would blast the exh housing but you may not have access to one. Plug the holes on the CHRA, Cover the wheels, and scrup the center off with a metal brush and simplegreen. DONT GET ANY INSIDE. Reassemble, feel happy about yourself, have a beer.

When my oil feed line to my turbo was leaking, I used brakleen on the turbo and it worked pretty well.

A wire brush always works good. You could also give it a good wipedown with some acetone.

Wire Brush + Simple Green = Win

Just be sure to plug up those holes, or youll be pissed when you have to disassemble it to clean it out.

I just bought a big 16g. any thing else would also be a great help for me. I was thinking to carb clean the hell out of the exhuast and intake housing, nothing in oil lines, i will cover them up and then sand blast the outside of the turbo. any help is appreciated
