I recently did a timing belt swap on my car, the motor had 155 on it when I put the new parts on. New pulleys, new tensioner, water pumpo, yada yada yada. All parts were mitsu, except the WP, which I got brandy new from a buddy at advanced for cheap.
5000 miles later
I HAVE to build a new motor, as my oil pressure at idle has dropped to a way unacceptable level, anywhere from 3-10 PSI at idle, and down 5-10 psi, from 75 to 60-65 at cruising.
So i am building a nice little stroker motor, and wanted to know if i could re-use the pulleys and tensioner, as well as the water pump, as they only have 5000 miles on them. I think i am going to replace the belt with a nice pretty kevlar unit, just for added insurance.
Any input?

Why a rebuild? What have you verified? This can very well be just a oil pump issue which requires only a front case and pump gears, all the 5k old timing belt components and WP can definitely be re-used.

Ya i would just reuse them. Are you sure your gauge isn't just reading wrong. I would check to make sure before rebuilding the entire engine.

and isnt it allright to reuse the tension as long as you cant push it in by hand???i was told that if you can spin the W/P freely without feeling any bit of bumps (like rocks being in there) then it was ok to re-use, and puleys wouldn't mater as long as they where bent or broken

Well heres my case for a rebuild-
Oil gets changed at 3500 miles, 10W30 with some 15W40 diesel turbo oil, Full synthetic.

-Gauge is an autometer pro-comp sender, brandy-new
-This has been a gradual decline in pressure since i put it in the car, I used to have around 65 PSI at 65 MPH , and it would hold steady. Now it gets up to about 55PSi at 65MPH.
-At idle oil pressure has dropped as well, from around 15 at idle, to the current 3-7
-Lifter tick went away after I cleaned the lifters, but now it has returned, but only during startup. Not too concerned about this one.
-If you put your hand over the oil cap, with is removed, at idle you can feel quite a bit of air moving past your hand.
-After I run it hard, like a third gear pull to check dsmlink, or just a quick pull on the street, as the car returns to idle(it will go down as far as 5-600 RPM's sometimes), the gauge will go down to zero, but as the RPM's climb back up to normal(900RPM) the gauge will hover around 2-5 PSI.

I know the motor was beat on in its previous life, as the turbine housing was completly cracked, the flywheel looked like a peice of shattered windsheild glass, that how many cracks were in it, and all 4 discs were spider cracked from heat.

When the car is cold, oil pressure is good, and the gauge tracks right with the RPM's, same goes for when it is hot, the tracks right along with the RPM's, pressure increases drastically as RPM's go up. Gotta port the releif housing a bit more.

And the final two
New Head is built and sitting off to the side - 280 cams, Ti retainers, 1mm over manley valves, and BC springs.
Block parts were ordered last night - Brandy new 6 bolt stroker crank, Wiesco pistons, eagle rods.
Gonna order the timing parts tonight or tomorrow.

Please use proper punctuation and caps when posting in tech sections of the forum. As for the answer to your question, the life of the auto tensioner plays a big role. Even if it passes the test you mentioned, if it's old enough, it's time to change it just like everything else that surrounds a timing belt job.

I agree whole heartedly, thats why i wanted to find out if it was safe to re-use these parts. I can't stand doing things twice or thrice.

Well at Mitsubishi, when we are doing a belt change job, we replace the water pump. Might be adviseable (did is mispell that?), but not guaranteed that you need a new one especially since it is only about 5k miles old. As for the timing belt tensioner, I would just go ahead and replace that piece.
