I have a 92 tsi automatic. I have about $2500 to spend at this time. I want it to be a 5 speed manual. should i get that swaped or just buy some bolt ons that would make me alot faster. i hate driving my automatic anyone know how much it cost to have it swapped ?

i would say its personal preference. if you want a fast car and dont care about manual transmissions, i say take that 2500 and buy some serious bolt-ons. however, manual transmissioned (sp) cars are far more fun to drive in my opinion so i say swap it, then save some money for the bolt-ons.

The swap itself isn't that expensive, it's just time consuming and mildly technical. It's something you can do yourself in about a weekend if you dedicate yourself to it, have a little help, and can deal with some cuts and scrapes. The most expensive part is of course finding the tranny in decent shape from a bone yard or local dsmer parting theirs out. Then of course, the fly wheel. After that it's bits and pieces.

i recommend going through and doing a little bit of a search and seeing if you can do it yourself given your technical abilities. You could probibly do it yourself for under 800 bucks and still have plenty of loot left to do some bolt ons!

yes i agree a manual is much more fun to drive.
thanks for the imput.
