i got up to 120 a couple times with i/h/e on my nt. now with the turbo 120 is just a pedal stab away. i need new shocks before i try to top that though

127 with the windows down and the sunroof open, and I was scared, that's a LOT of wind, so I hit the brakes after that. That was on a flat stretch at about 5500 rpm's in 5th gear. I'd have to say i'd max out around 140. Seems reasonable to me!

I have a 91 Laser RS that is pretty much all stock.... but ive gone 225km/h in it. not sure what that is in mph but still pretty fast. SHe's not turbo so it took me awhile to get there. Seriously though i love this car. Who would think that a Laser could beat some of the bigger names. But I CAN. ONe problem however is when i pass about 5500 rpm's there's this undescribable sound that roars from my engine. SOunds kinda cool.

This is one of the most entertaining threads I've read. FWIW, a 1G turbo will do anywhere from 137-140, depending on the conditions. This is with the same body as the 1G NT's, 65 more horsepower, and nearly identical gearing. Somehow, some of you have seen 150+ with a stock 1G NT? (Or 2G, for that matter) Ask yourself this, "Why the hell would a car with 65 *less* horsepower top out ten miles per hour faster?" I would love to hear the reason why *your* stock 1g NT is faster than a 1g turbo.

I agree completely. And you guys claiming 160's are loopy. A stock F-body has over 300 HP and they top out around 158-160. True, the DSM's might be a little more aerodynamic, but there is no getting around the laws of physics.

Once you start getting up that fast, small increases in top speed require LARGE amounts of power. A stock C5 can see about 175-180 at top speed. That is with 350 HP. To break 200 MPH requires close to 600 HP. 14% faster requires almost 100% more power. Power requirements increase with the cube of velocity. The number gets big real fast.

91 Eagle Talon ESI. On the way home from buying it we had it to 120. But the guy I got it from said he had it to 130 before. He said it could go a bit faster but I think it was on the edge of topped. Stock. Just have a K&N airfilter. But really I don't think that helps it a whole lot?

goin downhill on this huge azz hill on the way back from school, bake it in 4th, throw it in 5th, im at about 115 at the bottom.....stock 1.8!

i dare not try much more

I am with eclipsebabyblue, I topped out at 145 with only and intake and exhaust. Also it was on a perfectly flat road out in the middle of the desert. Got a little scary after 135! So be carefull, especially of you don't have Z rated tires.

It is interesting to me to see such a wide range of speeds for a stock car. A 40+ mph range difference is kind of sketchy between the lowest and highest speeds posted. I personally can't get much over 125 and I have a few mods on my car, maybe I just don't have enough space to hit 160. Also the posts concerning a governor, I believe too that the governors were placed on the GST because of the limitation of the tires. If you go to 2gnt or Club DSM and search their threads for removal of the restricting governor you will see it only concerns the turbo engines, not the 420a. I would like to see proof of the aforementioned speeds being attained thru pictures but due to the invention of programs such as paint shop pro one will never be sure of the truth unless it is witnessed first hand.

i have topped out at about 125. and do all dsm's have the power button?? i have one and i have only seen like 5 or 6 others that have them

My girlfriend had a 90 Laser with the power button, I never noticed a difference with it on or off, maybe it was busted.

i noticed a difference when i hit it. i hate the auto tranny but its all i can afford. when i wrecked my celica it was the only car available in my price range. i got my laser at an auction for like $1200. i couldn't be picky about the tranny so i just swiped this one up and it was the best looking of them. but now that i ahve it i love it. so i am just gonna start moding this car and fixing it up..

i see alot of people saying 125 and dont need 8 said its hard to believe. i dont know if thats because they have an automatic or what but i can get to 142 with just an intake and exhaust in a 98 eclipse rs. it takes some time after 130 but it gets there.

This is not quite what I said in my post, I found it interesting that there was such a large difference in attainable speed by a stock NA eclipse.

123 on the AMC test track in WI. 115 was quick, but above that takes some time. Anyone heard of a govner limiter?

i apologize for misquoting dont need 8 yes it is suprising to see the substantial differences in speed but with individual cars come individual owners. how the car is maintained and ran everyday can effect the cars overall performance. ive been in a n/a 99 gs that did 145 with no problem down the turnpike and all he had was an injen intake and exhaust. a friend of mine also has a 99 n/a gs that couldnt keep up with my car at all he couldnt get over 125.

how are we supposed to believe ANYTHING this guy says when he states a "15 flat" 1/4 time on his profile???? especially with ONLY exhaust & intake. congratulations, you're one of the fastest n/a dsm's in the world:rolleyes:

someone get that BS flag out.
