2G What size amp do i need?

So i just got some used subs and a amp from a friend for helping him out. I got 2 10inch alpine type e's and a performance techniques amp(unsure of model number). my question is what size amp will i need and should i bridge them or run them independent? ill get pics up with the model number off the amp tomorrow. and help will be appreciated.

Been about 6 years since i did car audio but i'd get a 1000 watt 2 channel and run them on there own channel. and dont max the gains and stuff that will cause clipping and kill your subs.

are you going to have the 2 subs together in the same box, or 2 boxes?

they dont really need alot of power, type Es sound great with not alot of wattage. 250 watts RPS and 700 peak...id rock anything between a 500 to 800 watt amp. 1 channel or 2, doesnt really matter. They would only need 1 amp for the two.

First you need to figure out what impedance each sub happens to be and whether they're single coil or dual coil. Then find the specs of the amp you're using. Find out to what load the amp is stable. If it says 2-ohm stereo, it is stable to 4-ohm in mono (bridged). The total impedance cannot fall below that stability spec.

If you have 2x 4ohm subs, the only impedances you can wire them to are 2ohm or 8ohm. If the amp is 4-ohm stable in mono...you cannot run a 2ohm load while the amp is bridged. Let's say the amp is 100wRMSx2 at 4-ohm. It will generally be 200wRMSx2 at 2-ohm...and 400wRMSx1 at 4-ohm Mono. You don't have a way to run 4ohm and you can't run 2ohm...you must run it at 8ohms Mono, which will give you HALF of the 4ohm Mono power: 200Wx1. This 200Watts gets split by each sub = 100Watts each. In this case it would make just as much sense to run the amp at 100Wx2 @ 4ohms.

Change that all around and let's say you have a (pretty atypical) 2-channel amp that is 1ohm stable in stereo...which gives you 2ohm stability in Mono. We'll use the same 100Watt specs, but shift it so that you get 100wRMSx2 at 2-ohm and 200wRMSx2 at 1ohm...which gives 400wRMSx1 at 2ohm Mono. You still have that pair of 4ohm subs to work with. You wire the subs in parallel to present a 2-ohm load to the amp and you get: 400Wx1...split to each sub and it's 200watts per.

Most Mono channel amps will be stable down to 2-ohm and sometimes 1-ohm loads.

I'm confused... you just got subs and an amp and you want to know what amp to get?? Why not try the one you got for free??
