I've ran into a little bit of money and have allotted myself $400 to spend on my 5sp 92 GSX with J-Spec motor. Right now the only things done to it are an Optima red top battery and a short shifter. What recommendations would everyone make for upgrades for speed. I can get a 3 inch exhaust put on for $150 from the downpipe back, would you recommend that? Thank you in advance.

I would go with exhaust. Especially if you can get it for that cheap. 3" from downpipe back might not be necessary, unless you plan on going for the stage 2. You can if you wish. 2.5" downpipe then 3" cat-back would work fine. But for that cheap I would go crazy.

do the exhaust and downpipe (250 total)
Datalogger 125+price for pda or get a mbc, upper intercooler pipe

One of my friends said for me to go exhaust, intake, wires, plugs and boost controller. If I get the datalogger then I have to factor in the price of the PDA to. Where would I find a 3" downpipe for $100? Also what about a FMIC? or Fuel pump with injectors?

Deffinetly get the datalogger . Indispensible !! A serious must have if you plan on any serious upgrades.

if i had a stock car, And i had 400 to spend, And all the maintence was done. I woud :

3" downpipe back exhaust, $150.00 (you're price.)

Mbc - $35.00

boost gauge - $50.00

Fuel pump - $95.00

That leaves you 70 extra dollars.

$5.00 for a 5 pack of grinding bits(Port everything out yourself.)

$1.79 for a gallon of gas (Clean you're intercooler out.)

Then the rest I would probably just save or use for 'spending money, Possibly pay my insurance for one month with the rest.
Thats just me though.

Design a Cold Air Intake. Behind the passenger headlight are 3 plates that can be removed and then the whole area behind the lights could be cut away. Get a smaller K&N filter and build a sheetmetal(aluminum) box around the filter. Then run the largest diameter flex hose down behind the ligt assembly and attach it to a "scoop" like piece attached to the area that opens to draw air to the radiator.
Rough draft, you polish it and do the install. $400. should be plenty. Mark

I wouldn't spend money on wires unless yours are broken or corroded now. They either work or not. Everything else I agree with. If your just runnin stock 14b and your just starting to mod, I wouldn't mess with injectors or pump yet. Learn to tune with what you have and maximize your current setup first. A good free mod would be to re-wire your fuel pump. That would alleviate the need to purchase a bigger one until you get used to your setup.

Whats a BSE kit? Is there anywhere I can go to find out how to rewire the fuel pump? As for the CAI, Why would I want a CAI on a turbo? If true cold air were to hit an extremely hot turbo housing, what might happen? It might crack. Thanks for everyones input so far.

The compressor side is not hot like the turbine side. Many members run CAI's, some very creative. i plan to run one this winter to my '93AWD 50 trim. Mark

if u wana notice preformance increase i would go with intake pipe and filter, exaoust, and if u have enough left a bov

There's nothing wrong with the 1g BOV.

For $400:
FREE MODS
3" turboback exhaust $250
K&N filter $40ish
Datalogger + PDA (you can find Palm's on eBay for under $50, cheap.)
JoeP MBC $45

I can get the turbo back exhaust for 150 so whatelse should I spend the extra 100 on?

These are the best ideas for him. An "intake" won't do crap, and why does he need a datalogger at this point?

i've got a few small things to work out. I'm goin to get a boost guage, MBC and datalogger. From there what else? probably get my exhaust for 150. I think this should eat up most of my 400.

get a data logger, All you need is the palm and a wire because there are some free loggers out there. I use Mmcd tools:

http://mmcdtools.sourceforge.net/

Its not as good as pocket logger, but its really close and like 100$ cheaper

P.S. A good CAI can only help a turbo engine. Cooler air in = Cooler air out. The compressor does not get nearly hot enough hot enough to worry about cracking. Hell I've seen pics of big drag turbos where they put bags of ice on the turbo to keep it cool while stageing. They don't worry about cracking

Thanks for all the input, but I've decided to put a little bit more money into the pot. I'm now looking at getting a Greddy 20G setup (intercooler, injectors, wastegate, BOV, and boost controller with piping and of coarse the 20G turbo) Plus a SAFC, plus boost guage, plus a dual dry shot nitrous kit (35 and 75 shot). My friend that I run with wants to get rid of it all, in return I do all the work, plus swap my parts for them. She told me to make her an offer, Not sure though. Currently she has ran a 12.00 with this setup on a 2G GS-T. I should hopefully hit 11s with it. Take into consideration she was running at Bandimere with back seats and door panels still attached.

a full wieght 2g gs-t with a 20g going 12 flat at 5280 feet? hmmmm.....
