So I went to checker auto parts today to buy a new o2 sensor to hopefully help my gas mileage... Well from what I had heard i need to replace the one that connects on the left side of the engine, then runs right over the heat shield, and then looks as if it connects in on the lower right side of the engine.

So he looks up the parts and has upstream and downstream sensors... He claimed that i needed an upstream so I thought sure. I take it out to my car and it is nowhere near long enough. So I go back inside and he says replacing the o2 sensor i was trying to replace will help in no way at all. He said that I need to replace an o2 sensor that is right on top of then engine WTF

I am really confused so could someone maybe get some pics of the o2 sensor i need to replace to help with my gas mileage?

Is the o2 sensor broken? If not changing it won't really do anything. Upstream o2 sensor is located on the o2 housing right after the hot side of the turbocharger. Second one is farther down your exhaust pipes near the end of the downpipe depending which down pipe you have. The o2 sensor on the o2 housing is usually the most important. Most people down use the one on the downpipe. Note both of them are in your exhaust streams and not located on the engine.

This should help you on the one your looking for.

Its at the very bottom right of the photo:

The other one located after the cat is just to make sure it is working properly.
